It had been a day like any other day and I was waiting for my final decision letter from the University of Connecticut. I had decided to apply, since it was close to my brother's house and the possibility of living up near him was an idea that my parents were comfortable with. I visited the campus and fell in love with it. I had gone to a small high school and knew this place was perfect, since the campus was huge. I went to the orientation and heard about the average grades and I was above average! I heard about their communications department, which I was excited to attend. I was perfect for this school and knew I wanted to go to it from that day on.
The mail truck pulled up in front of the house and I waited nervously by the window as he put the envelopes inside the mailbox. As soon as he pulled away, I ran outside to see if it came. I shuffled through the envelopes hastily; my heart beating faster until I saw it. It had finally come in the mail; the decision of the University of Connecticut was in my hands. I ran inside and sat down on the couch as I examined the outside of the envelope. The piece of mail seemed small, but I've heard that the acceptance letter for this school is always small. I slowly tore open the letter and pulled the single piece of paper out. I read:
"Patrice, we regret to inform you..." I stopped reading. My heart shattered. My dreams of attending this college were crushed.
Later that night, I went out with my friends so they could cheer me up. There was a TV in the diner that we went to and the UCONN basketball team was playing. I glared at the TV; "I don't need you, UCONN!"
All of a sudden, my dream college wasn't perfect for me after all.
The Small Envelope

I've heard the exact opposite of acceptance letters. Usually they're big...or just regular envelope size. Sorry to hear how you didn't get accepted. I hope you applied to more than one college.

Acceptance letters are genarally pretty big, as they aren't so much letters as folders, while rejection letters are just standard letters. That way you pretty much know the answer before you open the envelope, although you're still nervous either way. Plus, there's the third choice of being wait-listed.
I received that same damn little envelope from San Diego State about a year ago, and I recieved it AGAIN after I appealed. I didn't let that stop me though! I now attend the local community college in San Diego while I am cross-enrolled and the State school. I am doing the same thing as my best friend who is a full-time student at the State school, but I am saving, oh lets just estimate, about seven thousand dollars just this first year, but I am having the same, if not better schooling experience.
So I hope this inspired you to still possibly pursue your dreams! You can make them happen. :]
That's tough to hear. I'm sure you'll end up at the right school. It may seem hard now, but colleges usually do a good job of knowing if you'll be right for their school, and know that if you don't get in, you probably wouldn't have liked it anyway.
