I was doing homework not long ago (as in maybe half an hour ago) when I came across a quote that seems apropos for the current world situation, with its various wars and nukes and all that. For those of you who know more about the world standings than I do, I was wondering if you think it's a valid quote. With my limited knowledge, I think it is, because it describes...well, read it for yourself:
*Note-This quote is from the declaration of war against Germany by Woodrow Wilson. I am taking it completely out of context, and putting it into modern context, because we are not fighting against Germany, or for that matter, any of whom were involved at the time this Congressional address was given.
"The challenge is to all mankind. Each nation must decide for itself how it will meet it. The choice we make for ourselves must be made with a moderation of counsel and a temperateness of judgement befitting our character and our motives as a nation. We must put excited feeling away. Our motive will not be of revenge of the victorious assertion of the physical might of the nation, but only the vindication of right, of human right, of which we are only a single champion..."
-Woodrow Wilson, Congressional address declaring war on Germany
A question again-are we still fighting for ideals? Or are we fighting for personal interest? Have any wars been truly fought for ideals (my instinctual answer to this is the American Revolution, but even that war...)? Is it worth fighting over ideals? Is saying we fight for an ideal ust a cover-up or an excuse for performing atrocities? And I am not talking about just the U.S. I'm asking about any country, because I'm genuinely interested in what people think.

Sums it up right there.. The things we arent doing!
