Phenergan should be a controlled drug!

Tagged:

Has anyone ever had to take Phenergan, also known as Promethazine or Promethagan???  This drug should be Controlled just like vicodin or clonazepam.....  It gives the patient this high feeling and I believe from my experience in a pharmacy that they are getting addicted and abusing the drug.

I know a girl who took 6 of them all at once and was seeing and chasing invisible cats around the room....  but yet this still isn't controlled???

Know any one who talks about Phenergan like it's a "great" drug?  I want to hear your comments on this.....

I take it because I have a prescription and I usually take half of one and in about fifteen minutes or less I'm sleeping. I get migraines, which also causes nausea. Phenergan takes care of it. It does what it is supposed to do.
First and foremost the drug is used as an antihistamine. No controls on that.
Anyone who is taking six of any prescribed medication is not using their head. Period. You should probably be writing your post on medications and the side effects when used in combination with stupidity instead of controlling a drug that has positive benefits for responsible people.

Yeah it might be an antihistamine, but in fact I have NEVER seen it prescribed for an allergice reaction... and the doctor writting it for you for migraines???? humm.. have you tried fioricet, fiorinol, propranolol, imitrex, etc.. surely phenergan isn't the only or first thing this dr. has tried? Not to mention that pseudoephedrine is an antihistamine and they use it to make METH! A controlled drug is any drug that they think people will abuse or get addicted too... that is why I stated the person who took 6.... She was actually trying to kill herself but ended up with a really good high instead.

Not for my migraines. I have medication for that. For the nausea that is caused by my migraines.

Last I checked you had to have a Rx to get phenergan thus it is somewhat controled -- I don't know many physicians willing to risk their medical license so their patients can have a cheap thrill. What exactly to you mean by "controled"? Are you speaking of the classification or schedule of the drug should be different?

When I say it should be controlled I mean that the FDA should move it up on the schedule line... I don't mean that it should be like a CII or even a CIII but it should be right up there with vicodin.

You are right about this, Phenergan should be a controlled drugs, I find it very irresponsible of them to live the situation just like that. The sad thing is that Phenergan is not the only case like this, there are many prescription drugs that are just as dangerous. You could find more references about this in drug rehab centers.

Henry Nicholas should know about this. I also heard teenagers in my country taking 15-20 throat pills with hallucinating effects. It's amazing what people nowadays come up with..

Well here is flash news for you guys, phenergan is not the only drug that should be controlled, there is a long list of prescription drugs that urge to be controlled. If some of us are still not convinced about this look how many people ask for help in drug detox and then think again...

Ok so if someone takes a bottle of Tylenol should thast be regulated as well? The people in rehab are there because they have a psycho-somatic problem. You dont see normal people taking handfuls of any medicine. And by the way Imitrex is one of the most harmful substances you can take. A few days worth of Imitrex can cause a woman to miscarry, while Phenergan/Promethazine is prescribed to many pregnant women, to get over nausea/vomiting. You cant keep taking medicine off the shelves, and making it harder to get, because for every one addict or crack-head, that medicine is helping alot more people. People will always find something to get high on. Spray paint, and air duster for god's sake! Are we gonna need a prescription for that too? A crack head is a crack head, they will always find a new source somewhere. And if you are sincerely a pharmacist, then you should no the dangers of the medicine you are advising someone to take. Alot worse then the nausea medicine.
