Bikini Baristas to ban or not to ban?

chelsea.correa929's picture

There is a mom in washington, who is trying to get them banned...
Bikini Batristas. Aparently in Washington, there is a chain of coffe shops, who let their workers wera.... BIKINIS. Now, i have nothing agenst this, How is it any diffrent from HOOTERS, where they use their bodies to sell food and attract consumers??? As long as they are coverd up, i don't care. The only concern i have, is the health factor, Sense they are working with coffe, i am sure they sweat, and what not, so thats an issue, and what about their own safety, coffe is hot, and while wearing Bikinis, if they spil hot water, and if they wear flip-flops, dropping things.... However, that would be the employers concern, not mine.
Anyway,i honestly think it is stupid for this mother to be making such a big deal over this, if you do not like something, then do not take your child their, if you do not want them exposed to someting, and you know their wearing BIKINIS, then do not go there. simple as that, they are not showing their body parts, what next, are you going to try to ban them at the lake? or beach??
Anyways, to bamn or not to ban, that is the question.

so sandals are out, unhygienic in the eyes of the law. i think that wearing bikini's while working with hot liquids should not be done, it IS a saftey issue; unless they have signed a bodily disfigurement waiver, then go right ahead. also, three years barista experience should also be a prerequisite, so they might not burn themselves as often.

while some may be coming for the "eye candy," really all they are there for is their caffeine fix. so i don't think that it matters much. i could careless. i like semi-overheated, almost soapy tasting diner coffee better than gourmet, high cost coffee, either way i really just want my caffeine.

i have noticed that mothers can be a bit crazy at times, kyle's mom, from southpark is the kind of mom i am talking about. overprotective, stifling kinds of mom, i just cannot stand, they leave no room for their children to grow, repression can lead to a lot of unsavory things.

now MADD on the other hand, that is a good organization.

Yours truly,
.demosthenes What's up with that tech support chick?

Thats exactly how i feel...i love watching southpark for that mom. She is so crazy.
But i really feel that by keeping your child under lock and key will only make them go buck wild when they get out of the house.

If that mom doesn't want to buy her coffee from bikini clad women, she can go somewhere else--vote with her feet (or her dollars, as the case may be). If enough people WANT to buy their coffee from bikini clad women to make it a lucrative business, then so be it. No one is forcing any cleavage on anyone! That woman is wiggety whack.

I disagree with the mom. But I agree with you about health and safety; I'm sure OSHA does as well. It's a health and safety hazard for both the employees and the customers.

Are they actually baristas though? Or do they just stand and look pretty while handing a lidded drink to customers and taking orders at the register? A bar/grill in Phoenix, the Heart Attack Grill, has female employees dressed as your typical hot, sexy nurses (I think I am the only nurse in the history of ever not offended by this) but they don't serve food. They run the bar portion of the restaurant. They serve alcohol and sodas, that's it. I really don't see any health code violations there... except the flip flops. I think those are generally frowned upon in the work place no matter what your job is.

No, they are baristas.
There is this AWESOME pizza place here who has the employees wearing whatever they want. It grosses me out however, because of the flip flops they wear, and they never wear gloves..URRRGGG...but their pizza is AWESOME. After working in a hosp, i am uber aware of when people wear gloves, and what not, so it grosses me out..after learning about finger nails, and patients and everything, i never wear the fake nails anymore, and keep mine uber short...i am one of those germ-a-phobes who carries around the hand sanitizer. So seeing people with flip-flops in a klitchen makes me cringe. It ruiend my pizza place. So the thought of people working with no sleeves to catch their sweat and underarm hair or whatever. Also grosses me out.

I personaly would not drink from there because of the health issues(if they can wear a bikini, then they can wear their hair down). I do, however say let em do what they do, people have to make a living and if it pays your bills by flaunting what ya mama gave ya, then so be it. As long as you still love yourself in the morning.

This may seem kind of random but apparently sandals have been talkied about alot, So to make it different they should perhaps wear uggs instead of sandals. Maybe?

well anyways. The mom is completly off her rocker. Its doubtful that she will get her way and ban the bikini baristas because its so ridiculous
