Scarey

One of my teachers set up a blood drive in our school.  Good thing to do right, great cause... but why were some of the students feeling light headed and sick.  Sick so badly that there was an EMS needed for assistance.  Is this because the American Red Cross are not hiring people with the right credentials.  If this is so... then why would i want to give blood if i'm just going to end up sick.  From my understanding they were taking way too much blood.  Maybe this is something natural or should i say normal, that a person gets sick after getting their blood taken?  If not then that is a serious problem and makes me think twice about giving blood.

This happens to a lot of people after they give blood. You are still losing blood, regardless of how it's taken, and your body is trying to rebuild itself. Some people are able to give with no side effects, most are not.

You can't automatically assume that this is the fault of the red cross. Sometimes, there are incompetent people that are staffing these events. (That's inevitable.)

But the human body is volatile -- and anything can happen, especially when holes are made and things go in and out. Sometimes, people don't react well, even though they may pass the screening.

We can't be TOO strict with screening tests. If we were, no one would be able to give blood! This is one of those you don't know until you do it kind of deals.

I wouldn't not give blood. People need that resource very desperately, and every able body should help. I've given blood, and I've coordinated 6 school blood drives with minimal consequence. Please, take it with an open mind.

Well i went trough this too. It just drains you and your energy
