Introduction from GroundsKeeper

This forum may be inappropriate for me since I am fifty-five years old and and divorced. I gathered from a quick glance at a few comments that the participants here are doubtlessly in their twenties and still engaged in the task of forming the basis of their future.

But let's take a look at that notion of "forming a basis of one's future." Most, if not all of us believe this, it is quite obvious, without doing so one merely winds up in a most degrading situation barely scraping by earning a living----which is what many self-supporting students do initially.

My father taught organic chemistry for his entire career at Washington State University. Once he mentioned the fact to me that he had waited tables when he was an undergraduate. This conversation probably took place circa 1970.

Obviously I had a role model to follow, a father insistent that I perform well and succeed in college. So why did I fail?

I lost my nerve. My courage----what there was of it at the time-----fled me.

And as you can see, I still feel a bit of remorse about this from time to time, but I feel fundamentally rather good these days: my back has stopped aching, I still view the advertisements for Viagra with amusement, and in one month I shall be in The People's Republic of China, enjoying a state of semi-retirement. Perhaps I shall let you know what follows.

We don't get too many in the older generations (and I don't mean that in a bad way) here, but there are several prominent members that are well into their 40s and 50s that have been here for ages. Most tend to come for the scholarship, but we always welcome those of you who come for other reasons!

Out of curiosity, why China? You usually here Hawaii or the Caribbean or Florida.. I think this is the first time I've ever heard China. It's interesting Oh please Oh please Oh please...
