How will our generation be remembered?
This is the question that I often ask myself, looking around at what the young people of today are interested in, and how they define themselves.
Many generations of the past have had major movements or interests that define them. There have been the hippies, the dead-heads, the Vietnam era, the Baby Boomers, the flappers, the suffrage generation, and countless others that I can’t think of right now.
So who will WE be remembered as? The environmentalist generation? How about the reality TV kids? The American Idols?
Too often, I think we’ll look back on the early twenty-first century as the Myspace era!
I wonder if we could put five things in a time capsule that represents our generation—what would they be?
I know from many of our parents’ generation, there would be many (slightly embarrassing!) items that represent the culture of the 60’s and 70’s generation. These things get dug out of the closet every ten years or so for those dreaded high school reunions: Motley Crew record, bell-bottom jeans, huge A.M. radio, lime green bean bag chair, “Peace Now” protest poster.
So what about us? What will we dig up twenty years from now for our high school reunions? (We’ll probably be really embarrassed by some of the stuff that we think is cool now!)
How about: one American Idol episode, one Razor cell phone, one pair of Converse All-stars, a ‘Bush vs. Kerry’ poster, and a Myspace profile.
What do you think: Who are we as a generation, and what are our “items?”

MySpace
I agree. I think that we'll be known for MySpace. Although, I must admit, I've never really thought about this before...it does get you wondering.
