While sitting during the previews before my movie, I was looking more foward to the eye candy that would be on screen for the next two hours more than anything else. Did I want to analyze the movie? Absolutely not. After all, movies are suppossed to allow you to escape from reality. My fantasy life was going to be with Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillipe and then the movie started...
The movie "Stop-Loss" is an excellent film based on what happens to our troops in Iraq these days. Men who have been proud to serve their country come home, hoping to be released and then being sent back. In other words: they are stop-lossed. This is pretty common, since 610,000 troops have gone to Iraq and 81,000 have been stop-lossed. There is no draft and there's a shortage of men going over; there is no other choice.
Real life situations happened in the film. It showed that when the men came back, they were torn up about the war. Their minds were messed around and all they could think about were the many lives that were suffered at their hands; not only the enemy's, but innocent people. They said you don't know who the enemy is. They hide everywhere. Because of their state of mind, they ended up ruining relationships with their loved ones.
Things do change after war. My mom met my dad before he became a Marine; she said he was the sweetest guy she had ever met. Once he entered the Marines and went to war, he isn't the "sweetest" anymore.
Here at home, I know some people are anti-war and blame everything on Bush. As they said, "No offence, but the President isn't fighting this war watching his buddies getting blown up alongside of him." But, these men are fighting for their country, because they know it's right; to be sent back is wrong, but is unfortunately something that may happen. The movie should also how the soldiers can be disrespected even though their efforts to win the war are noble. They risk their lives in combat for us and what do we do? We don't take a moment to remember that.
I know you might be thinking that I am for the war 100%. I am not. My friend enlistened in the National Guard, has completed her training, and graduated. I am scared to death if she has to go fight. My cousin became a Marine and I know at any day the same could happen to him.
This movie definately gave me a new prospective on the war. If you get the chance, I recommend you watch it.
