After attending a late event with a friend, we decided to take a late trip to steak n' shake.
Coming in, there was a group of people, that were rather annoying as they were standing directly in front of the door as we tried to walk in. But, paying them no attention, I slipped by them.
There were TONS of people there that night, so we were sitting a long while, before getting our midnight dinner. And, usually... It's a habit, and almost a hobby of mine, to watch the people that are around me in such a setting.
I do this for many reasons. One, would be that I simply love people...Another, is that I love to study different people, and just everyday action, because it helps me in the world of acting. It's also a good way of keeping yourself entertained in a boring public place. ;)
So, as we were sitting there, I saw a number of different people walk in.
The steak n' shake we were at, is right across the airport. So, I saw a flight attendant, and a few pilots come in... And, what looked to be a few of the former passengers of those big planes that we could see flying over head, through the windows.
After a while, I noticed that those rude people, standing right in front of the door, during our entrance, were seated across the room from us. "Well..." I thought, "That's odd..."
There were three Asians, one guy that looked to be middle-eastern, and a white girl, that was around 6', 6'2". WOW.
Now, being me... I tried my best to analyze these people... because it was a rather unique mix, indeed. The three Asians, all fitting in with each other nicely, to the on-looker... and then, that middle eastern guy. And man, that girl was TALL. She dwarfed every one of them. She definitely could be a model, if she so chose to be. They were all in their late teens, and they all seemed to be, a slight bit, on the awkward side, not just in their mixed company, but even in their behavior.
One of the Asians, was a rather overweight guy, and, of course, the white girl was taller than anyone in the restaurant. And, race was a huge factor involved in me thinking they looked "awkward" simply because, you don't see that kind of thing every day.
Together, it was like this strange, and new mix, of all kinds of unfamiliar pieces to the worlds puzzle. It was like when you hear someone speaking a foreign language; only imagine it to be a bunch of languages all at the same time, in this imperfect, and yet, perfect mix. Like, a song with all kinds of different instruments all at once.
As I watched them... you would think they were completely blind to their differences. No one acted strangely around another. And, it was honestly, quite refreshing to see it. Five friends, getting together, late at night, to just talk, and have fun. Despite the differences.
Laughing, and talking. To them, people were people.
I thought to myself... what do they have? Is it because they are more on the "different" side, even in personality, so they can look past the stero-types and assumptions?
How come, they have mastered it, even in their late teen years, and most haven't?
I told my friend Alexandra (also an Asian), who was there with me, that they looked like a happy, and perfect group of "misfits", a group of very different people, that I wish I could be like. I wish we could all be like them. I mean, why can't we?

I love when you see a real example of cultures mixing together. After spending the last four years at a minority school, I can't say it surprises me there, but else where, you just don't see it often. And it's terrible when people look down on it.

Do you find it odd that you are not as strong as you once thought?
