Who is singing your heart?

In a deep conversation one night, my guy friend said, "The music you listen to is a reflection of who you are or what you are going through." This makes so much sense to me and is probably the reason why I do not like most rap music. I DON'T understand what they are saying. I can't identify with money-hungry, women-hungry, violence-hungry men. But, that's just me and I love Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco.

This summer I found myself nose-deep in Maroon-5's cd. Everytime I got in my car, that was definitely in my stereo. I guess it helps that I had just gottn out of a relationship and that is what they were singing about. During Christmastime, it was all about Alicia Keys and it just so happens that this great guy had just entered my life. Right now, I am loving Chrisette Michelle because of her sultry sound and singable lyrics. She also sings about the positive things in life (not just relationships) which I am really feeling right now.

My music somewhat defines me and gives a look at what I think is important in life. What artists do you love? And what does your music say about you?

I think that this is partially true, but not completely. I recently made a mix tape saga, as I have dubbed it, and there are several different songs on there, both upbeat and slow. But I couldn't help noticing that the actual lyrics were often sad and a bit depressing. The first CD begins with Modest Mouse's Bukowski, which is all about questioning the existence of God, because how could any person choose to do all that God does. That pretty much sets the tone for my entire saga- whether it's questioning God, my own existence, love, society, etc. So, I guess that means I'm questioning everything right now... ; )
I don't think it's completely true, though, because along with Indie, Alternative, etc. I also listen to a lot of Metal and can sing along with a heck of a lot of Slipknot and Korn songs. Do I agree with what they say? Not usually. Am I angry at society or life or whatever? Not particularly. I guess this subject is up to interpretation.

I've always had this really deep connection with music. I listen to pretty much everything. And sometiems I'm not in any particular mood. The music can put me in a certain mood, for sure. I've noticed that when I'm feeling a bit down I end up listening to a lot of ballads. That's about it. I think music, in general, expresses every facet of my personality. So I guess I can agree that music is defining of who we are. I know that I would be a much different person without my music.

Most of the time I am a radio person. Whatever is on the radio is my favorite song. but I use to listen to certain music that fits my mood at the time. When I was depressed I'd listen to Simple Plan "Untitled", when I was happy I'd love listening to Hellogoodbye "Here in your arms". It felt like I was really connecting to the song. Which reminds me... I'm not so sure about you, but I realized that whatever mood you're in or whatever you are thinking of there's always a song that fits you. Even saying "I need to put some Lipgloss on." You can burst out into the song "Lipgloss", there's just something for everybody!
