A little help here and there...

So after a nearly disaterous mistake by an unknown party at my online college, I would have worked for absolutely nothing completing assignments and 2 courses that I was technically withdrawn from.  Luckily, my Academic Advisor caught the "mistake" in time to drop me from my classes to restart on the 24th.  I was jumping for joy in not having to do homework for a week and a few days, but instead, I found even more satisfaction in helping others online with their homework.

Generally, I had previously found that all the forums relating to my school posted on Myspace were basically complaints and non-productive discussions between students.  Lately, I have been paying even closer attention and found that there are people/students out there that actually want advice and are posting actual questions to receive advice.  So, I have found it my student shared responsibility to pitch in my two cents to help other students through there frustrations.  Frustrations that I know all too well and wished that someone had offered me true and good advice through the situation.

I have now made 3 new "friends".  I feel even better to get feedback that I helped a few others through a difficult assignment.  The instructors at our school are not of the best quality.  Most only respond with automated responses that really are not specific to a student's needs, concerns, or questions....ughhh, i know that all too well...

I guess I find it within my duty as a fellow student to act like one and help other people.  Although I thought I would be getting some rest these days without my own homework, I have found myself up late for the past week working on math homework and showing people how to work through the problems.   I'll be happy for those that have benefited from someone taking the time to explain to them how to do something.  I'll be happy when they can say that they got a good grade and are finding the class easier and easier as time passes.  I'll never need a thank you from them, just the satisfaction that I did my duty as a fellow student to promote educational growth in someone else...

I think that its good to help people with their homework, especially when you understand the problems they're having with their homework.

In an online school environment, I truly feel it it up to the students to make the best of the situation and to add to the learning environment. Some will and some won't, but at least I can influence others to share the knowledge that they have.

my high school recently began a program called student forum. With a tutoring and advisory committee, our school hopes to improve our very low math scores and advise students to stay on task to meet graduation requirements.

That's a great idea. A lot of students are not comfortable asking for help, especially in high school, because they fear being made fun of for being "stupid". So much of high school is based on popularity or achievements in sports. A student forum will allow students to depend on other students to assist in progressing in an academic manner. I hope that contribute to that program in one way or another, whether that be asking for help or helping another student.
