I was talking to my professor tonight and
Canada’s Medicare Program came up in conversation. I suggested that
America should take that program into affect but he disagreed.
I guess his parents live up in
Canada and the Medicare Program does not benefit them. The Medicare Program mainly benefits the working class of people, the ones that benefit the economy. The moment you are retired all of the elective (I use this term loosely which I will explain) surgeries come out of your own pocket. Now when I say elective I do not mean a breast job or tummy tuck I mean a knee or hip replacement surgery. If you are retired and in need of one of those surgeries you have to pay for it yourself. Which I have never experienced knee or hip problems but one would think that having that constant pain everyday would take its toll on you. I guess their view on it is that you are not benefiting the economy and society so you are kind of put on the back burner per say.
Now another thing that I found interesting about the Medicare Program is that you only get certain prescription drugs. Say if there are two different drugs to treat a problem you have, a panel of 3 people choose which one they will pay for. So say if that panel picks prescription drug (A) which causes stomach pains as a side affect in you, you are stuck with using that drug. Say if there is another prescription drug (B) out there that works fine in treating your problem with no side affects you have to pay its full price on your own.
Now granted this is on my professor’s own experience so I’m not saying that it is 100 percent true. But I wouldn’t understand how it would benefit him to make this up. And I had a feeling that it sounded too good and had a catch like most things.

Canada's Medicare Program is very ineffective. My aunt's mother lives there and she is elderly, and has needed knee surgery I would say 10 years ago. They told her, her knee was not in worse enough condition to be considered for surgery. Just recently they told her, after a doctor's visit, her knee is too bad to have surgery. Their program basically tells patients they have to wait... until they can't get surgery, so they (the government) doesn't have to pay for it.
I really am appauled at how many people think that installing a health care program like Canada's into the US. I hate our medical system, just to note... but to go to a system like that is a step way backward. I think that doctors shouldn't charge so much and insurance companies should not even be in the mix. They are costing us alot more than need be. We need to revamp our medical system. It is now a place of business rather than a place to help people.
Note: it is understandable to make a business out of reconstructive surgery for things such as making yourself looking 'younger'... but not for burn victims or those who seriously need medical attention. You shouldn't charge an arm and a leg, for the ones you are fixing.
