Hi, my name is Dilshad and I'm a Indian classical dancer. I've been dancing since i was a minor 5 year old. Indian Classical Dancing is a traditional type of dance that has been around for more then 500 years. Like most dances it is unique and cultural. I personally love Classical dancing because it offers you an opportunity to express your true feelings and it can also be a form of a work out . Indian Classical Dancing involved the movements of the hands, feet, neck, head and eyes along with the movements, face expression is a very important part of Indian Dancing. There are many types of Indian Classical Dancing some of them are called Kathak, Bharat Natiyam, Kucipudi, Monipuri and Folk. The type that I've done are Kucipudi, Kathak and Bharat Natiyam. Both Bharat Natiyam and Kucipudi are similar in movements but Kathak is very different from both forms of dances. Kathak came from North India where Bharat Natiyam and Kucipudi came from the south. Not only are the dances different but the customs are also different. There are special outfits for Kucipudi and Bharat Natiyam. Kathak has a very different outfit from the other types of Indian Classical Dances. I love all the Indian Classical Dances equally and have learned a great deal about them.

Hey Dilshad
Interesting topic. Simple but informative. I am from India and recall learning Bharat Natiyam in preschool.
I am happy to have run into a passionate Indian classical dancer here.
Goodluck for the scholarship award.
