Being a PRE-NURSING student in CA

I can't believe the lengths that pre-nursing students have had to go through just to get into a nursing program! I got lucky and got into a great school with a great program. However, it didn't come easy.

Being a pre-nursing student, you have to compete. You have to compete for a seat in a classroom that only accepts about 50 students. You're grades have to be top knotch. If you have anything but an A, your likely hood of getting into the program is slim. If you repeat a prerequisite class, you're likely going to be put on the backseat to someone who got the A the first time. If you are anything but near perfect, sorry, look somewhere else. Either look somewhere else, or put your name on waitlist and wait for years!

Nursing students have been highly competitive. I'm not sure why, but that's the reality of the situation. It was sure stressful, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It bothers me because students who aspire to become nurses change their majors because the competitive nature of it all is just too much. Why can't there be more students allowed in the class? What if everyone got straight A's in all of their pre-reqs, how would the system change? It boggles my mind that students are forced to wait to continue their education. If only there were other ways to become what they want without being told that you need to be perfect.

That's been my case when trying to get into a nursing program. I was close, but no cigar. I've applied almost everywhere. Luckily I've managed to get in and am ready to embark on my journey to become a nurse.

Good for you finding a school! I know Nursing School is tough to get into! I live in Michigan and we have a 2 year wait! We need a B- or better in our pre-req classes, and when you completed them, you go on a wait list. I will be put on the 'alternate' list this fall after my chem class this summer. Yes it is crazy when Nurses are such high demand. Good luck to you! Keep your head up-you will make it :)
