Minimum Wage Hoopla

So after reading someone elses blog about minimum wage being $5.15..(or something like that), it hit me, as it always does, that we here in Washington have it pretty good.

No one can live happily and support a family on minimum wage, no matter what they say.  Why is it that in places such as New York and California, as well as Texas and ALMOST everywhere else, that minimum wage is so much lower than Washington..when a majority of other states are more expensive to live in?  Maybe I dont quite understand the workings of our country yet...and no, im not interested in making less and having a job which I consider mediocre again.  I guess it is just food for thought.

It actually makes me feel bad about how much I bitched and complained for the two years in High School that I made my 7+ dollars an hour...when even now, adults in other cities are making a minimum wage far less than that.

One thing that must be considered about minimum wage is the cost of living in some of these areas. My parents bought their modest 5 bedroom home for $279 a month on an eight year note. In many areas with higher pay you can not even touch a studio apartment for $279 a month. In my home town the excitement is high school football. The cost is $5.00 for an adult. The highest priced meal at a restauraunt in town is going to be around $15.00 for a great sirloin dinner. So you have to take all factors into consideration

My mother makes a little over minimum wage and we are barley holding on. She is way behind on bills and we go without somethings. That is society today.

Interesting perspective. I doubt I'll ever know the answer to yer questions, but I look at minimum wage and the extended living wage as if they're moral issues.

But I come off on the side of the work-force rather than managers and CEOs whenever an economic issue arises. It's probably a weakness.
