Weed...the new thing? PART 2

Ok so i wasn't surprised at the fact that i noticed people smoke weed. the problem is just that how is it people choose to do something like that? Why can't anyone just find something better to do. Instead of wasting your time, go out do something fun. instead of being even more stupid than you already are, do something better. find happiness with something good. look for the positive things that bring good things not the things that seem positive, just cause it feels good, but aren't at all. i been seeing this for many years now. not mentioning that my borther smoked and currently is still using it. It just hurts to see that. knowing THEY are the only ones suffering. Come on people. why can't people just see what they're doing is wrong. does it help to see those anti-drug ads on tv? the ads in magazines. why can't we do something to actually stop this from continuing to future generations?? music videos have more influence than the real life crisis' do for teens. when will it stop for us? when will teens choose to put it down and take a good look at themselves? when will our future generations stop looking up at our misfortunes and turn to a better face?

Well I can see where you are coming from, but I don't agree with you. The opinion that marijuana is bad is solely in the eyes of the beholder. People who seem to get "dumber" from it are probably already dumb to begin with. Weed is like any other drug, legal or not, it can be used and it can be abused. People use marijuana to calm themselves after a stressful day or they might use it to help in a meditation process.
My point is that marijuana can be used for good things also. It's just idolized as an abuser drug. Try looking at the good things about it.
I very much respect your opinion and definitely see where you are coming from.

But not everybody views it as wasting time. For some it's a pastime.

And those anti-drug ads are zero percent effective. And a little dumb. Why waste time telling people not to smoke weed when there are so many other worse drugs? What about crystal meth?cocaine? Those will seriously fuck you up. I know tons of people who smoke weed regularly and are A students, ace musicians and all around productive people.

it's okay. I have a black gay friend.

ok i guess that is true. i mean i never really met or at least i might not know someone who does do good even though they do smoke weed. i guess i;ve just seent he bad side of it.

No, pot isn't the worst drug out there. But, it is one of the most common, and most people agree that it is a Gateway Drug... meaning kids often start out smoking weed, and then get involved with groups of people who smoke weed, and then start drinking, and it often escalates into drugs such as meth and cocaine. I hate to say it, but every single one of my friends who started "just smoking" has ended up on MUCH worse drugs. Not to say that everyone who smokes weed will end up a meth head, just in my experience, that is what hapens.

Whoa. Anyways, back to my point, I just mean to say that although anti-marijuana ads may be ineffective against worse drugs, that they do serve a purpose in addressing the root of more serious drug problems.

Well in my experience none of the kids who smoke pot take anything more dangerous. I know there are kids who do, but I rarely meet them. I didn't mean that anti-drug commercials are ineffective against harder drugs, I meant they should be about harder drugs.

I have to see a reliable study that says weed is a gate way drug, because that is not what I have observed.

I do understand your point and the author's point, but the exact opposite is also true.

it's okay. I have a black gay friend.

I agree with all you're saying, _Meke. I know scientists, doctors, lawyers, bankers, and the list goes on and on-who all smoke.
My outlook- I hate butter. It makes you fat, and it's nasty to me. I could apply butter to this entire blog, and use the exact same claims as the writer. It's bad for your health, makes you fat, and you could find something better to do than eat butter. However, it's not my place to tell anyone what they can or can't eat, and its also not my place to tell anyone what they can or can't smoke. ]

Are you one of those people who think weed is bad because it's illegal, but don't mind that way, way more people are out partying and drinking every weekend?

Drugs are supposed to be addictive right? If you're interested in trying it, and you get addicted, there's really not much you can do. The thing to do so people don't get addicted is for them to never try it at all - but of course no one can stop that.

It's extremely difficult to get addicted to weed. Addiction is a disease with specific characteristics; just because someone likes to sit on their couch every day and puff a little pot doesn't mean their addicted to it.

It's also pretty much impossible to overdose on weed (way, way less possible than becoming addicted to it).

(Source: http://www.brown.edu/Student_Services/Health_Services/Health_Education/a...)

Yet weed is illegal.

On the other hand, while only 10-14% of actual, marijuana users become addicted, 7.4% of the ENTIRE POPULATION are "addicted to alcohol", a.k.a. alcoholic. It is also WAY more dangerous.

(Source: http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/drug_guide/Alcohol)

And alcohol is legal.

Just sayin.

I think a lot of people agree that drug laws are a little screwed up. But too few people see why.

Marijuana is very close to non-addictive. Sure, it can be. Yes, it can cause lung cancer. And yet, it isn't nearly as toxic nor addictive as cigarettes. And still people don't see the strangeness of that.

On that same not, I'll say a bit more about drugs. Cocaine, Heroin, Meth, Alcohol, and more are considered "hard drugs." This is because they satisfy three conditions: they are physically addictive, they are directly physically harmful, and they are easy to OD on. Now, Marijuana, LSD, Psilocybin, and Mescaline are considered "soft drugs." Non-physically-addictive (or so close to being it is virtually negligible), not harmful (directly), and almost impossible to OD on.

And despite all this, despite the fact that LSD can fix alcoholism, that Marijuana is one of the most potent, natural painkillers, despite the fact that native peoples have been using mescaline and peyote for hundreds of years without the problems we, in less than 100 years have had with alcohol and cigarettes, people still think these things are bad for you. Sure, hard drugs are bad. That goes for all hard drugs. But soft drugs? Soft drugs are better for you than most prescription medicine. And that's a scary thought.

Well, I have some different ideas about the potential long term effects of LSD and mescaline, but for the most part, I can agree with you.

Most prescription meds are ridiculously dangerous, addictive, and harmful. I don't know who decides what outweighs what, but the logic seems to be inconsistent.

Cigarettes are disgusting. Alcohol, while it can be "fun" and okay in moderation, is really dangerous. But there is money to be made on those products, and making them illegal would be harmful to the economy. The same goes for prescription medicine.

We could argue that we could tax things like weed and LSD, but the market is frowned upon so much that it wouldn't really work.

Who decides? I think that's my biggest question. Who says pot is bad but Percocet is okay (because honestly, I've never been as sick or as messed up mentally as when I was on Percocet)? Whoever it is needs to get their priorities straight...

...and explain to us their logic.

I love these opinions. You guys rock!

You can OD on alcohol. I wonder why that's still legal.

My BF told me of his army experience and why he left and this is what he said:

"You'll let me jump out of planes but you won't let me smoke my weed. So you want me to go try and kill myself but you won't let me smoke my weed."

That does make sense though.

Prohibition people. The commercials, the amount time to make it look bad (its not really) on tv and whatever other medium the government uses.
If you go to other countries like Amsterdam, people are not retarded and homeless and the kids are smart.
THE KIDS ARE NOT BEING FORCED TO BUY IT FROM THUGS OR DEALERS ON THE STREETS AND GETTING RIPPED OFF. On the other hand the US is forcing our youth and adults to obtain the grass from illegal dealers.
I Tell you its just a money hole for our tax money and its been going on for the last 50 years.

Be the change you wish to see in the world! - Ghandi

I don't think weed smokers think there is something better to do than smoking a joint, I don't think they have any productive thoughts or plans to improve their lives. Perhaps that's why it's so difficult to reach them with anti-drug messages, they are too ignorant to notice things around them. I don't like to judge but I don't have a better explanation either, it's unexplainable why people choose self destruction. This is not always the case though, I recently made a review on Cliffside and people there do want to bring a good change in their lives.

weed is wasting time? it is a completely harmless, in fact beneficial and natural plant, that can significantly reduce migraines and cure depression. It has no effect on brain capacity and is not addictive. Weed is much less dangerous than alcohol, which causes 85,000 deaths a year. The US Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) records instances of drugs being mentioned in medical examiners' reports, and marijuana has never been a cause of death. Ever. as a pastime there is nothing to separate it from any other activity, such as exercising, which can be pleasurable after achieving a "runners high". you mention real life crisis for teens? if your referring to teens who smoke weed as a gateway drug and move onto other and actually dangerous substances, that is true. but there is nothing negative about plain old weed. you seem to be influenced more by the fact that it's illegal, and haven't looked into any reasons why.

"Put your best foot forward, just watch what you step in..."

The best part about this blog entry is if marijuana was legal the person who wrote this would have a totally different opinion. Marijuana is proven to be less dangerous than alcohol and you can't OD from marijuana. Marijuana opens your mind and let's you see perspectives from different view points. It is a natural substance i this world. If you're a religious person, then think to yourself why did god put weed on this planet?
As for people wasting their time smoking marijuana, anytime anybody is smoking marijuana it can't be a waste a time becaus it results in such different experiences.
My advice to you is to trust in your brother. He obviously wouldn't keep smoking a NON-ADDICTIVE drug if he was hurting you. Don't judge something you most likely have never tried and open your mind to new things. If you don't like it then you won't ever have to do it again. But, if you do then you'll understand.
