This whole polar bear cub fight is completely ridiculous. For anyone that has no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at this article:

A polar bear cub was taken under the care of the Berlin zoo after losing its mother, and animal rights activists are in an uproar! They claim that it would have been better to let the sweet little bear die in the wild than to live under human care because ANIMALS HAVE THE RIGHT TO DIE.
Wow. Polar bears are a precious, beautiful, threatened species. Why should we leave an infant to die? Because it has the right to die, of course.
So all the while that I am astounded by the reaction of the animal rights activists, I am thinking of something almost unrelated.
Abortion breaks my heart. Really. It does. That a person could end a human life without batting an eyelash tears me apart.
But it's no pro-murder, right? It's pro-choice. Pro-choice… Dictionary.com says:
pro-choice (prō-chois')
adj. Favoring or supporting the legal right of women and girls to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy to term.
pro-choice
adjective
advocating a woman's right to control her own body (especially her right to an induced abortion) [ant: pro-life]
So a woman has the right to control her own body. Apparently, she may also control the bodies of her children. So if she kills her six month old baby (who IS having an effect on her body; she never gets to sleep because the baby cries so much, so now she is becoming ill), is it then a crime?
Okay so basically we're saying that because the baby in its mother's womb is less developed than the average newborn baby, it's okay to kill it.
It's so funny (funny like odd; not funny haha). You have to wait for the right to drive. You have to wait for the right to vote. You have to wait for the right to drink. And so on...
I thought there were natural rights: life, liberty, and property.
Those rights go to everyone. Or so I thought.... But it appears the rules have changed. The first one is no longer a basic right. You have to wait several months for the right to LIFE.
What a terrifying wait that would be if they knew it was coming…

.:VVN:.
I'm really hoping that they don't kill this bear because it's so adorable. It might not be the reasonable reason why it should live but kinda like what you were saying...So if we have the right to live, then animals... should have the right to live as we do.
It really is adorable :)
Jelly-beans run rampant throughout the city of Los Angeles.
Your psots seems a bit mixed and random, throwing in topics into some kind of blog stew, and it tastes terrible. But, I'm not one to make metaphoric critiques of writing.
To call the parasite in a woman's stomach a 'baby' is a bit pretensious. Consider that it's a lump of cells that can't feel, or think. You may have some ground when speaking about late-term abortions (which were just outlawed, in all cases, which is illegal constitutionally - see the 'due process' clauses, especially the ones concerning life/property), but when we're speaking of the abortions that are the the largest percentage of total abortions, we're speaking of a parasitic lump of cells. It's stealing the woman's energy and body space for it's own advantage. It doesn't matter that it could develop into a human, it's taking her energy and her resources. It's a parasite dependent on her existance to live - therefore, it's her choice to end it.
And yes, the cub is very cute, and I'm sure it won't be killed. The 'animal rights activists' here are probably on the extreme side of 'let alone' animalism, which isn't particularly popular as it means extinction by our own hands while keeping them tied on helping. Most rights advocates would agree that this polar bear, and other endangered animals like it, are better off in the care of a zoo that will try it's best to make the polar bear happy in an environment it seems to be prevalent in. ie, one of the soon-nonexistant glacial areas.

If a society is willing to give freedom for temporary security, they deserve neither.
are you going to call your kids Flea and Tick, maybe even Worm? while it is true that the cells are "taking advantage" of the woman's body, she decided to put them there. I'm all for chioce but I think it is a little extreme to call a fetus/embryo/baby a parasite.
This is a link to help save the polar bears! By signing the petition, you will help place the polar bear on the Threatened Species List. Comments may only be posted until October 22, 2007, but signatures will continue to be accepted after that date.

Save the polar bears!! Please!!

I understand what the definition of a parasite is, but that's a little harsh. I mean, when you are a child you dpend on your parents for food, shelter, healthcare, etc. So in some sense, according to your argument, aren't children also parasites? And what about the elderly? Just a bit extreme, that's all.
Why would they kill if they can save its life?
A valid inquiry.
