So, I live in Michigan... and apparantly our state could not come up with a good budget plan for this fiscal year. Oh boy.. guess what that means? Michigan is shutting itself down.
To those who do not know what this will entail... basically Casinos, lottery, parks, secretary of state, and anything else state related will be closed until further notice. Can you imagine just for a second how much money Michigan will be losing on Monday morning alone? Not to mention all the old people who will be extremely ticked off that they can't buy lotto.
I mean, what more can we do? If they raise taxes then people will start moving out of Michigan. It's not like they have much reason to stay. And, it's be a big risk to lower taxes on the off chance that people already lost faith in this state.
Now, two hours before 10.01.07, we are starting to see the first signs of this shut down. Campers were asked to leave state parks tonight and go back home. So far not much is being down except a budget extension. Can Michigan be helped now at all???

is that Grandholm keeps going on and on about creang "manufacturing jobs" and "biotechnology jobs" and "green enery jobs", but doesn't realize that one of the reasons for young people leaving MI is that there are very few opportunities for jobs in the arts in MI. I'm an actor, and as competitive as the profession is there are virtually no good Equity jobs in MI! (Besides touring companies). The size of GR Festival of the Arts should show that there is an untapped market here. Also, establishing art communities (such as the one in Marfa, TX or the Stratford Festival of Canada) brings in valuable tourism dollars, and more people moving in.
Also, since I wasn't willing to sacrifice my quality of education by attending a MI college, I don't get my $4.000. Grr.
