Weight Loss Fraud

If you turn on the TV, you're sure to see a commercial or infomercial about some weight loss product.  There are so many things: the ab roller, pills like Hydroxycut, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc.  They even get to the absolutely ridiculous: remember that belt thing that you wear under your shirt that supposedly gives you six-pack abs.

Anyway, the other night there was a show exposing some of the secrets that go into these commercials.  They always have those before and after pictures.  In the 'before' picture, they person is usually looking depressed and looking fat, to put it bluntly.  Then, in the 'after' picture, they're happy, look gorgeous, and usually are completely toned and thin.

I never really knew if these pictures were real or not.  They always looked like the same person, but I wondered if they person actually got fit by using the product they were endorsing.  I also thought they might put makeup on the person's body to make them more toned because I know they do this in magazines.  Once in an interview with the singer, Pink, she said that one magazine put bronzer on her abs to make them appear to be more defined.

But I never even realized just how fake these commercial pictures often are.  One woman said that in her 'before' picture, she was actually pregnant!  She said before her pregnancy, she always worked out a lot and ate healthy.  So they took the picture when she was pregnant, then once the baby was delivered she began to work out again and they took the 'after' picture.

Another person said that he was always going to the gym and working out to look good.  Then one of these companies asked him to start eating all junk food for a short time.  He ate ice cream, pizza, candy, you name it.  He ate enough to get a layer of fat on his muscle so they could take the 'before' picture.  Then he went back to his workout regimen and easily lost the fat since his muscle was still there, just below a small ayer of fat, and they took the 'after' picture.

I never really thought a pill could make you lose weight.  And even if it could, I knew it was probably a) unhealthy or b) a quick fix that would not last.  But I never realized how much they fake the 'before' and 'after' photos.

Wow, interesting. My mom usually says those photos are fraudulent - so, she's right.

I have never been a believer in any infomorcial but I do watch them sometimes, even though I hate to admit it. I do know people who have taken trimspa for years and have kept the weight off, I guess if you want to take the pill then keep taking it for the rest of your life than that's up to you. So yes sometimes the pills do work.

I being doing training and exercise for years and i could easily tell those before and after pictures are not realistic. Sometimes people have tyroid problems so in cases like that i suppose pills would help but otherwise i wouldnt suggest it.
