Recently I was online, and something in my searches caught my eye. There was a video posted on a website talking about an online video game in which you become one of the two killers at Columbine. This struck me as a very disturbing thought. It seems as though video games are getting more violent and all too life like. And this video game seems to be one step in that direction. Kids, I feel, are being force fed images in a "play like" stance that are nothing in the terms of play. How would you feel to have one of your children brutialy murdered and then having other children acting out their murders?
And it seems not only to be murderous video games that are getting in the hands of our "future" but video games including graphic, even descriptive sex scenes. Now I know the law says certain games are for certain age groups, to help guide children in to age appropriate selections, but somehow younger children are getting their hands on more mature games. I don't see it anymore as the children's responsiblity to chose that age appropriate game, as it is the video game makers responsiblity to make less graphic games. I know in this day and age, the higher body count the better. Everyone seems to be obessessed with killing, sex, and other disturbing topics. But what is this doing to the children, the children who someday will be out police officers, lawyers, and maybe even, for some of them, our presidents. Are these video games helping them, or in the long run, hindering them?
Video Games; Fiction or Reality?
