I Always Thought Those Fries Were A Little Fishy

This is an article that discusses the effectiveness of brand-names (McDonalds, in particular) on small children.  In this study 63 children were asked to sample 5 diffrent foods: Chicken Nuggets, a hamburger, french fries, carrots, and milk.

Wanna try and guess the results?  The foods that were wrapped in the McDonalds wrappers were prefered over the non-branded wrapping.  Though the foods were exactly the same, and the only difference was the packaging, the kids said that the McDonalds food just tasted better.

Is this the answer to some prayer to get children to eat their food?  Or is this finding a curse, simply displaying the destruction TV has caused?

Now, I can't really curse the TV.  I have the total cable hookup, a TV in damn near every room in the house.  I am addicted to my shows (South Park, Burn Notice, and That 70's Show).  I watch a fair amount of TV.  And I do judge some decisions solely on brand name.  My peanut butter has to be JIF.  My Ketchup has to be Heinz.  My toilet paper has to be Charmin.

Are the other brands any worse, or does something click in my brain that says, "Eating non-brand name is uncool."?  I mean, I honestly cannot understand the psychology that goes on, and I'm sure some of it is just based around my parents' preferences.  For instance, we only eat Heinz because they helped to support my family during the Great Depression.

But have we traveled down a road from which we cannot turn back?  Are we too far gone?  I guess we will have to ride this crazy spiral and hope that things turn out for the best.

Burn Notice and That 70's Show.... awesome choices Oh please Oh please Oh please...

Sometimes brand name food is just better. Nothing wrong with that!

i actually read that article earlier today! i have to agree with a point they made though, that said the study might have had different results if mcdonalds were being compared against another well-known brand instead of no-brand. i think american culture is very brand-focused (not necessarily loyalty to one major brand, but think about clothes--things with a label tend to be more popular among kids 'cause it's a status symbol; i feel the same thing is happening with food), so maybe a mcdonalds vs. burger king vs. wendy's competition might have been interesting.

depends for me.. something the brand name actually tastes better. Like Root Beer for example. But then I hate Mott's applesauce but I love Kroger brand applesauce. For the most part I just buy whatever is cheaper food wise. Mostly 'cause that's how my mom shops so that's what I am used to.

It is the same thing with clothing..And growing up as a teenager in the century everyone portrays that designer is better. Putting depth into my parents pockets just to please me. I can wear non name brand clothing & still feel pretty.

I have to have Welches jelly, heinz ketchup, wonder bread....the list goes on...its just what im used to

I think that another reason why those children preferred McDonalds food is because not only because they liked the packaging of the foods, but because they might have liked those McDonalds commercials that are on Saturday mornings in between children's TV shows.

I am a brand name freak.

It has to be Cottonelle, Inventor, Subway, McCormick, Pillsbury, Tide, Price Chopper, Joy, ect.

These companies love me, because I am one of the people they try to cultivate as a loyalist and will be very successful. I only walk into stores I'm comfortable in, I only like certain brands, and I'm very picky about trying new things.

I posted this blog AGES ago and you're just finding it now? lol

My mother is a brand name person, but just on certain things.

Butter is one. Has to be a certain brand.

For a long time, my dad took a MUCH cheaper butter from a bigger tub and refilled the smaller 'expensive brand' tub when it was empty.

She never new, but would constantly talk about how she could 'taste the difference' between the two brands.

heh.

Me? for 90% of stuff, I don't care. Many 'generics' are actually from the same manufacturer, packaged after the daily quota is made, or made using raisins that are a bit smaller, or a bit bigger, etc. Or the mixed nuts may have more broken pieces in it.

Coudln't care less. as soon as it goes in my mouth, I chew it up, so I don't care about the size of a raisin or the wholeness of a cashew.

In fact, I'd edge that 90% even higher, but I'm 'lowballing' it, to make up for any specifc brand stuff I buy because 'that brand is better' . . .

I think that my martial arts equipment (I just REALLY like the stuff from century) is about all I buy by brand.
