Let me explain with a story….
Last summer I joined the local volunteer fire company as a way to give back to my community. One night around mid October my duty crew and I came back from a call and were lounging around the kitchen drinking Gatorade. 60 Minutes was on the TV and they were interviewing Bruce Springsteen.
My lieutenant turns to me and says
“He has more money than God”.
I nodded and laughed. Still looking at me he tells about the time he saw Bruce Springsteen in concert.
****THIS IS WHY WE SUCK********
Lieutenant:
“Yeah well, I had finished my Junior year of High School, this was back in ’74 and me and some friends had heard about this awesome board walk in Jersey so we said ‘hell lets go check it out’. The six of us piled into my Buick Skylark and drove up there the first day of summer. We had a great time and one night we were walking down the beach and heard some music. Well sure enough Bruce Springsteen was having a concert right there on the beach. It was great.”
***HERE IS THE BEST PART****
“Yeah, it was probably the best summer I ever had. We didn’t come back to Virginia until the weekend before school started.”
Can you imagine that? Spending the entire summer with 5 of your best friends away from home at some place you had never been to with no contact whatsoever with your parents, with only the cash in your pockets, with really no place to live except the beach and your car and not coming back until the last possible weekend?
No job, No family visits, no summer assignments, not a care in the world.
There is no way you could do this today. What an amazing time it must have been to be alive.
We really need to get out shit together.

Meh, it comes with the times. They got cheaper cars,gas, everything in general, but we get better technology. Would you trade cheaper things for your computer/cell phone/internet/ etc. Some would some wouldn't. its the times we live in
Perhaps we should stop saying we need to get our shit together, and get out there, put the gloves on, and put it all in one pile
