A Catch-22, it seems

I'm thinking that I like my government class a lot, although it's taught by a self-important windbag. See, having the lazy lifestyle I have and not catching up with the news as much as I used to, I learn about all the issues through my studies. And this is where we got to the topic of how the approval ratings of both the President AND Congress have reached ultimate lows.

First, I'm asking myself, is that much of a surprise that people don't think they're doing anything worth getting done? No, I guess that's not something to be so shocked over.

I think it's a mix of the fact that Mr. Bush (as our burning liberals love to call him) has used his power of veto so obnoxiously and at the same time Nancy Pelosi doesn't know what to do with herself now that she's the big cheese. It doesn't make sense...I understand that ultimately to get something done Congress COULD have the override that Bush doesn't have the advantage of, but there are still so many people out there who are so far to extremes that they keep canceling out each other. Is it just me, or has it gotten to the point where this checks and balances thing has become somewhat moot?

Now, I'm not saying for a second that it's screwed up persay. I'm just at a loss of what to do aside from voting for new representatives. Is that seriously all we can do at this point?

Hasn't it gotten to the point where people are so pissed about all this money going into Iraq that they'd be absolutely outraged after what's gone (and not) on with legislation? Is there any way that we can protest NOW as opposed to November of an even-numbered year?

Please keep in mind that I am probably so off-base here as far as facts go and knowledge is...
