A Driver's License to return a pair of jeans???

Edited to add that give this a read...it is meaningful

How do those two things connect or what makes them connect is what you should be wondering about when you read that title.

I am surprised that I found that there is a connection between the two. And I don't like that connection, but it is not something I can change but I am going to try to inform you about it.

I bought a pair of black denim wash jeans from The Limited over the weekend. I thought they were a nice fit and it is really hard to find something that fits you when you are 5ft 2 inches and weigh about 100 pounds--- but finding a nice pair of jeans is hard, regardless of your size. My issue is with my height.

Regardless of the fact that they were very very flare jeans, I bought them. I don't know why, stupid-stupid move-it was idiotic of me to rush and just buy them. I think I was tempted because they were on sale.

In any case, I went today to return them, my dad drove me (more on that later). I asked him to wait in the car while I ran in and returned them. Little did I know what I was getting myself into when I would try to return them.

The lady seemed really nice, she did her job and tried to sell me on buying another pair and exchanging the one i had for a new one but I said--no, I am in a rush today. She said okay..while trying to return them I discovered a really odd and unusual thing.

I need to have a driver's license to return something I bought there (without a driver's license may i add)

Why is my not having a driver's license going to make it so that I can't even return a pair of jeans?

I had to bring my dad and have him present his driver's license to the manager and then they returned me the money on my debit card.

I should add that I had a photo id and a driving permit---and yes I am over the age of 18 but I don't drive and the reason for that is for a later time and blog which I don't want to go into detail yet because.....i'm not ready to--it involves a loved one in a freak car accident

HAS anyone had this happen to them, or something similar...?

Please share, I was pretty upset and it made very little sense to me despite the fact that she --(the manager)-- wrote this whole driver's license thing as a store policy-

store policy? one as odd and weird as this?

A similar thing happened to me. I am a video game person and I wanted to exchange games that I bought for store credit so I could buy another game. Now, I could buy the game with no ID as long as I was using cash and with any ID at all if I was using a credit card, but to return the games I needed a state ID.

Apparently, the reason is that some parents complained that their kids returned stuff to the store and used the money to get drugs. I really do not get this. First of all, most stores give you store credit. Second, what does it matter if you have ID? You can still use the money to buy drugs. Luckily, I was driven, so the driver retuned the games and used the credit to help me buy the game I wanted.

and even though i love the word boggles, i don't like having to use it for something

That is a great word. I might suggest Dunderhead, Defenestration and antidisestablishmentarianism. Here's a definition for antidisestablishmentarianism off Dictionary.com: opposition to the withdrawal of state support or recognition from an established church, esp. the Anglican Church in 19th-century England.

the antideestablishmentarianism and i think that might attest to the fact that I have taken so many history, religious and sociology classes despite my goal to be someone who knows and deals with sceince and facts and objective findings
i might add that it wouldn't hurt if people also tried to grasp new concepts, you know lke keeping an open mind to things that they have not been taught all their lives but it seems that it is a hopeless thing to hope for (lol and i rarely use lol but i thought this was the right place to use it)

Defenestration is fun to say!

And antidisestablishmentarianism is just ridiculously long. Why couldn't they have just named it the anti-abolition movement or some such that people could actually pronounce without having to think about it.

defenstration is mcuh more fun to say
and i actually thought of abbreviating that long word as deestabmentism but it's even more confusing and what i don't get is...
why the word we use to actually say that we are making a word smaller is so long
---so i need to abbreviate, abbreviate, as abv.

haha, i just messed with my brain too much

That is weird. I don't know if the store is a chain retail or local, but if it's chain, you might contact the corporate office to inquire about the policy. If you bought the jeans with a debit or credit card, it might simply be to help keep down fraud (it's insane around here right now, I know). If that's not the case, you could probably make a formal complaint to corporate about the policy.

suggested i do the same actually,
after having to explain to them (more than one person) why i don't have a drivers license and was about to break down in tears(which is pityful because the accident was four years ago and i still can't get over it...slowly) she still did not budge and accept the return

In the state of NY, it's a law for some idiotic reason.

cruel but i will say it is unusual
but for people who are unable to drive and sometimes don't evne know about sate id (there are people), this upsets me.....
