78% of all abortions are obtained in developing countries and 22% occur in developed countries.
So only 1/5 of all abortions take place in countries like the United States. All other take place in countries where, most likely, proper facilities are not available.
An estimated 68,000 women die each year from unsafe abortions.
Here in the US:
Women identifying themselves as Protestants obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the U.S.
Catholic women account for 31.3%,
Jewish women account for 1.3%,
Women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7%
18% on women who identify themselves as "Born-again/Evangelical".
Women with family incomes less than $15,000 obtain 28.7% of all abortions;
Women with family incomes between $15,000 and $29,999 obtain 19.5%;
Women with family incomes between $30,000 and $59,999 obtain 38.0%;
(This is the highest bracket. So income does not seem to be the main issue as many believe.)
Women with family incomes over $60,000 obtain 13.8%.
It is safe:
About 88% of the women who obtain abortions are less than 13 weeks pregnant. Of these women, 97% report no complications.
Death occurs in 0.0006% of all legal abortions. In comparison, a woman's risk of death during pregnancy and childbirth is ten times greater.
No relationship between abortion and breast cancer has been scientifically established, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Pro-Life Lies
"Anti-choice forces are even willing to intrude upon the doctor-patient relationship. Several states have enacted laws mandating the discussion of an increased risk of breast cancer as a risk of abortion. Such laws force doctors to choose between misleading their patients and obeying the law." - National Cancer Institute
Worldwide, the lifetime average is about 1 abortion per woman.

So, a bunch of unsourced statistics are supposed to prove that being pro-choice is good and being pro-life is bad?
I made a special post with all the links just for you.
So you sourced your stats, that's great. But how do statistics help prove your case?
I'm not trying to 'prove' anything so you can go away now.
Why do your statistics prove that being pro-life is a bad thing? I'm pro-life, so you are basically saying that those unborn babies do not have the right to live and make choices of their own. So why should a woman take the life away from someone so defenseless? Give the unborn babies the right to choose their destiny.
So, if you're not trying to prove anything, do you not believe any of those statistics are true?
Do you not believe that abortion is safe? That is something you posited above ("It is safe") and then used statistics to support the statement.
But, you're not trying to prove anything, so you just posted those statistics at random just because, right?
What I meant is that I am not trying to prove that pro-choice is better than pro-life. It is just my opinion. If you are trying to get an arguement out of me, which seems like what you are doing, you can give up. This is my last comment on this issue.
So it looks like countires that are worse off have more abortions? Does that mean that poor people have them more often?
I think this information was very helpful, thank you for replying to my own blog about abortion and showing me this link.
As far as comments about you trying to prove something, I do not see this as the case. Rather, it appears as though you were stating your opinion on abortion (pro-choice) and using statistics as the foundation of your opinion. I think that's very admireable. As I posted on my blog, most people only look at what they think they would do if faced with a situation or a choice of abortion. I've known many people that preached "no abortion, no abortion" but changed their tune when they were faced with it themselves.
I for one have no idea what I would do if something ever happened to me and I had to face that choice. I want very much to have a child, so I don't know if I could ever follow through with an abortion. However, barring rape and incest, there are dozens of other reasons why women (or men) might consider having an abortion; some look at it as a good decision and others regret it for the rest of their lives. All I know is that none of us have the right to tell someone what she can or cannot do with her own body. I do think more restrictions should be placed. For example, right now, a 16 year old (or younger) girl can have an abortion and the doctor does not have to let her parents know about it - nor does she need permission in my state. Most of these cases turn into abortion being used as a form of birth control and I think *that's* deplorable.
Thanks for the comment. Its nice to see that some people can say something nice on here.
sorry i am pro life
Does this really have a point? Who cares which religious groups have the most abortions? Humans are not perfect. Christians are usually pro-life, but there will always be outliers.
And as for the economic level, so what? Women with a relatively high income have most of the abortions.
These statistics don't really help ur hurt either the pro-choicers or pro-lifers.
"Pro-Life Lies"
-Well that's quite a generalization. I'm sure not pro-choice people lie. Yea right.
You know what? I dont care. I'm allowed to post whatever I think is interesting.
Thanks for the statistics- it was interesting to read. I believe that people should be able to make their own decisions. I am angered by women who seem to use abortion as a birth control, but I understand that for some people, when you weigh the facts, it would be better for them to not have a child. Many people who SHOULD NOT have children, do, and the child is forced to live a horrible life either with abusive or uncaring parents, or without parents at all. Or, if a birth of a child who has no emotions and feelings yet, may end the mother of that unborn child's life, sanity (and maybe a little selfishness in some's point of view) needs to kick in and say "I WANT TO LIVE." I don't think that people who are against abortion are wrong, as I would hope pro-lifers don't think I am wrong. We all have our opinions, and isn't it great that we get to express them so openly and freely?
