They Should Stop Censoring Anime

Japanese anime seems to be so outlandish. It shouldn't seem offensive to anyone, because the way they look and what they have was on purpose. It's meant to be hyper and sometimes a little on the adult themed side. So why do companies like Funimation have such a vendetta to chop up great shows so they can aim them to 6 year olds.

Take for example a show lik Dragonball Z. Yeah, for someone who is like 19 it's not a very appealing show. However, it's technically suppose to aimed to higher age group than what it was in the United States. Funimation butched that show. Many episodes were condensed into one, dropping entire scenes from air play. My question is why would they even consider aiming a show so violent to young 7 year old boys in the first place? Even if you take off all the blood, censor all the times the character drops an F bomb, and block out all the suggestive dialogue, (which they did) it's still a very questionable show to let your young impressionable kids watch. I say this, because there is much news going around about how music should censor words out so they won't send a bad message to young kids. And, it's not just shows like Dragonball Z, but others like Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo and other early one Toonami hits.

I'm not entirely for censorship, but I'm not against it. There are certain shows that don't deserve this. If you want to censor the naughty words or phrases that's fine... but if you have to start chopping out scenes or entire episodes and change the dialogue to the point where the character is saying some totally different than he should, then stop. I would rather watch it with subtitles. Don't go to extremes and hack what could be a great show into pieces, because you want to promote it to a younger audience.

I don't like anime, I never have; granted American cartoons are going downhill and I think someone should just napalm every animation studio (except Pixar) and make them all start from scratch. But, I didn't know they chopped anime up; I mean, I assumed they changed them around some - it'd be nearly impossible not to. But I didn't realize they were that different.

I know exactly what you mean by this!

Many a good anime has been ruined with attempts to gear it toward six-year-olds.

A prime example: Tokyo Mew Mew. Awesome anime. Didn't think I'd like it, got sucked in anyway. 4kids butchered it when they dubbed it. Not only did they change all the names AND the title (to Mew Mew Power...which is cheesy), but the sequence of events got messed around with somehow, and people found out things five or more episodes too early.

It annoyed me much.
