Community Building Bee Keeping (Part 2)

So I lost one of my jobs...because of my own lack of scheduling deftness. But, today I was sorta glad I didn't have to go to work (although I'll miss baby Jack deeply,) because it was a sunny day and while sitting in the coffee shop down the street drinking a triple espresso, I got a call from one of my neighbors, asking me to come over and re-pot herbs with her. This is the same neighbor who is going to teach me about beekeeping, through sort of hands on work-learning; so I was ecstatic that she also wanted to share her knowledge of herbs with me.

Well, we spent nearly three hours in the sun (time I was suppose to be devoting to be devoting to learning microbiology,) re-potting basil and chamomile and nettles. And not only did we talk about the wonderful healing properties of these plants, but we talked about Derrick Jensen, primitivism, her dream of starting a primitive community, a tribe if you will, in Northern California, and many other amazing topics! We also talked about the lack of community in our daily lives, not wanting to hold "real jobs," but how hard it is to eat in the city if you don't hold a "real job," about a friend of hers who tried to live for a year in our neighborhood in a hunting/gathering lifestyle but how it didn't really work because he didn't have enough access to land to hunt and gather from.

I realized, once again, what amazing neighbors I have, and that if I want, I can get a free college-level education from my neighbors about herbs, wild foods, primitivism, bees, farming, permiculture, tracking, being eco-sensitive and many other amazing things, just by walking down the street and working with them from time to time. And not only do they educate me, but they send me home with plants of my own to plant in my yard, books to read, and fresh greens to eat!

My point is; education exists all around us! Whatever it is you want to learn about, I bet ya you can find people close by who will teach you. Put your desires out to the Universe...I can almost promise you opportunities will arise to give you the lessons you desire!

Love ya,
