Wait... what?

We are all progressive aren't we? No, actually, I will have to disagree. We all are on this website for who knows how many hours a day, but how many of us are making a difference in society? I have seen here and there in various blogs where people admit to spending hours upon ours on this site, or that it is the first and last thing they do everyday.

Personally, I am not being all that progressive. I believe I am somewhat. During Christmas I always donate all the change in my wallet to the people ringing bells. I bought $94 running shoes, but made sure that 100% of the profits went to the LiveStrong foundation. I always have a snack in my car to hand out my window to a homeless person. I open doors for people. I let people cross the street. I don't feel progressive though. How much can we ever really do? Nobody will truly know.

So my thoughts are conflicted right now. Are we all being progressive here? We all talk about what we should do, but more often than not they don't contain anything about somebody having been progressive. So this website... ProgressiveU, is it really making us progressive? Or is it unkowingly preventing us?

I really don't spend more than a cumulative hour or two a day, depending on the day. So really, this website is not hindering me from doing something. I, myself, am not being progressive in my society. I wonder though, for all of you who spend hours and hours a day, what are you doing to be progressive in society? Don't you feel like you could volunteer or do something with the five hours you spend on this website? Do you believe progress comes in the form of blogging?

I also don't seem to spend nearly as much time on this site as many other do. I believe that we should be taking more time to act upon the things that we are talking about doing and or changing!

Yea, I just feel like it seems crazily ironic.

What are these but more words? What are you going to do that is more progressive than having serious discussion about actual issues. I do not sign on unless I'm at work, so I would not do anything progressive anyway. Not that I do outside of work I am just saying there is no easy way to be progressive, and not enough that can be done.

It's sad but it's true. No one wants to be progressive 24-7 but they'll donate their change, or feed the homeless. It's what we can do.

I understand what you are saying. I know I am not doing all that I can either. Many of us don't spend all that much time on this site, but I wonder about the ones that spend hours a day. I know my blog is only more words, but maybe somebody got enlightenment, or maybe, dare I say... inspired?

You are absolutely right! Talk about social change is good, but it doesn't mean anything at all if no one is willing to put their words into actions.

I know I could do more, and I'll never deny it. I donate, make monetary contributions to a few organizations, and maybe spend 10 hours a YEAR actually volunteering in the community.

However, from blogging on ProU, I am learning more about other issues that are important to progress. Many issues are addressed on this site that I do not face in my daily life, but I may in the future and having read more about these issues I feel more educated. Reading opinions written by other bloggers help me to understand the many different positions people can take on an issue, making me more sensitive to all of the different facets of current issues. I feel that blogging and reading blogs is very progressive in that I am gaining knowledge and understanding about my generation.

After reading and posting, I am a little more prepared to go out into the world and deal with people on a personal level. I know now that everyone I meet will not agree with me and I may not agree with some of their beliefs, but I can accept them and be sensitive to them. With every post I read I can take another baby step forward in my understanding of humanity.

Since knowledge is progress, ProU is also progress.

That is a great way of putting it. I know it is progressive, I just wonder what people do besides blogging I guess. I really enjoy this site, don't get me wrong! It is great and I learn so much. I just wonder if people get up off their computers and do something.

My focus is on education. We can't progress if we don't know what needs to be changed. So, I blog (when I get the chance to) about issues important to our society, trying to educate people about them. When people don't know what's in their food (one of my series), they can't complain that what they're eating could be poisoning them. When people don't know about the horrible treatment in hospitals, they can't complain to get it changed.

By myself, I cannot advocate enough for change. But get a whole site on my side... nothing could stop us then.

I understand that educating through blogging is progressive. I agree. I however still believe there are so many people on this site that are not being progressive. I too have posted a few health related ones too, so I understand and agree that education is important. I just feel guilty sometimes and think, everybody on ProU used half of their time spent on this site to put their words into action then we could do even more for our society.

Yeah, I don't have that much faith in people. And I'd much rather them know why they're writing letters to senators encouraging solar power, and both sides of the discussion, rather than just writing it because they want to do something.

Besides, it's easy for me to multitask and do my homework while I'm playing with ProU (though not tonight, with trying to get these bonus points figured out), and I don't have that opportunity much else, since I have to travel to do something for my community and that takes time.

And I'm distracted, so I forgot what else I was gonna say...

Haha, well I try to hve faith in people, but when even I am not being active in my words I cannot really blame or guilt anybody about it. This is true, I multitask while on ProU as well.

I am on this site quite often. But I feel as though I may be helping even just a little bit by responding to blogs. By responding your not only saying I care and I read your blog, but also if you are the only one who comments than you can feel good knowning that at least you tried. I do not mean to stay on here most the day but my other alternative is to watch tv, school work (which I do when I need to do it), go to work (Another thing which I have to do) go outside and stare at the grass, or just sit here doing nothing. None of these things are really helping society, but I would rather be on here and make a tiny difference than sit on my butt doing nothing.

I would love to help out my community more often but I do not have a driver's license. pitiful but I will get it this year I hope. This prevents alot of things I can do. I do eventually want to raise baby tiger's because they are endangered, and open sancuary. I know this seems strange but...I might

I loved this blog. Progress can come in blogging but rather in every form imaginable.

I am here to inform and help:

Love comments? I do too!

KrisanMD's picture

Yes, a license would help! Haha. Really though, I understand. I believe we all help here and there with our blogs and comments, and that we teach people. I also feel like we could do even more if we volunteered or walked for a cause.

I am glad you like it, and yes progress can come in many different shapes and forms. :]

They have a heart walk here coming up in a few weeks. I would go but It conflicts with my work agenda. I have been working on a website to help people out along with trying to create an organization. World Change organization... but the website is taking a long time to even get done.

Like I said before I am stuck here...it sucks sometimes. 20 years old and stuck in the house. I feel like I am 14 all over again. lol. I will be able to make a difference hopefully when I can drive...

Yes great blog have not seen you write a bad one yet!
