I seem to talk about what is most relevant to me or has come up in my life most recently which is why tonight I want to talk about dropouts. Just recently my eighteen-year-old sister dropped out when she realized she would not graduate on time; terrible reasoning do not you think? I have seen short term, long-term effect of dropping out my brother was a drop out as well, and I have seen the terrible effects it has had on his life.
Recently dropping out seems to be all the craze and it seems even more just lately when I have seen some of the possible outcomes. Here are a few outcomes that has come from dropping out
Short Term effects:
Myron a friend of mine who could not pass the ninth grade and after three years of trying dropped out. A month later, he had a GED the equivalent of a high school diploma without the effort apparently. Unfair does not even cover it. Although I think, he still works fast-food.
My sister now goes to Cyber School, as does her best friend because they are too lazy to get up early in the morning after partying all night and they are going to graduate this year after skipping a total of over 82 days last year. I am not even going to touch that one.
Long Term effect:
My brother now 32 years of age got his GED only a few years ago after dropped out when he was around 17. He has not been able to get a very good job because of his choices back then and that puts strain on the family he is trying to raise now.
The school education system seems to be getting more and more corrupt as the years go on. Rules become more slacked and more bendable. However, some humorous news McDonald’s is slowly but surely moving towards requiring a high school diploma/ GED to work even the most basic job i.e. frying fries and handing out greasy hamburgers for a living. Once and if that happens the other major food chains will most assuredly follow the example claiming to want kids to stay in school but it just goes to show how much easier everything is making it to dropout and just get your GED.
Is the education system corrupt especially now with Bush’s No Child Left Behind movement. What a great success that was it just gave the government a reason to close schools for unjust reasons and spend less on education but that is a topic for another time.
However, what I want to ask is, is the education system corrupt today? Should there not be laws that mandate the need to at least finish a high school education seeing that nearly ever job is requiring that at the very minimum? I believe it would greatly reduce the amount of people that rely so heavily if not solely on government handouts because working a, “Would you like fries with that?” kind of job does not get them that Mercedes they seem to assume they deserve. What are your opinions though should people be required to achieve a high school diploma without the option of dropping out?

High School drop outs are only one of the concerns of this country. We are competing academically on the very low end of the spectrum. These people dropping out are part of it. Our colleges and schools are becoming more competitive and difficult because we need to compete with the world, and for some reason some of America isn't following. It's not bad post :/

Hi, I'm a high-school dropout. I dropped out when I was fourteen. Worked alright for me. :)
That's great I have to say I think you are one of the few but that is great for you.
Think globally act locally.
Always listening.
I wouldn't be one of the few if more drop-outs were aware of the alternatives available to them.
