Foreign Policy

I am a debater and this years topic had a lot to do with foreign policy in Africa specifically health assistance. I think the imperialism has gotten out of hand though. We won't help countries because they aren't like us. What's up with that? So what if a country chooses to endorse abortion? Does that mean we have to deny them help? Well duh, because George Bush said so and God says killing babies is wrong so we must force these beliefs on other nations or else they won't get any help from us. So basically, we're destroying culture in other countries. Take FGC (female genital circumcision) for example. It's a terrible practice in the US but in Africa it's completely legitimate. It's part of their culture. The women who don't have it are outcasted from society and it gives them a lot of power. It enforces Africana Womanism which is different then Feminism in the US. But no, the US has denied assistance to those countries that participate in this practice. We're basically calling their culture crap. Like our culture is so much better? Who are we to judge what they do to their bodies when we do similar stuff? We circumcise boys and that's fine. We get breast implants or breast reduction. Plastic surgery everywhere imagined. Piercings any place we want. But if some other country wants to modify their body in some sort of way we blow it out of proportion. And I know that somebody is going to try to tell me that the girls are being forced to do this by the males in society but that's a stupid argument. It's actually the grandmothers and women in the village who do it and men are not even allowed in the room. And if they hate it so much, why do they grow up and do it on their own children? But no, just because the west views it as bad then we forbid anybody in aiding it. We've driven it more underground so that it becomes more dangerous. Forbidding FGC isn't going to stop it, it's just going to make it worse because the practice will still continue. So instead, why don't we just send them clean tools and medicines for it? That way the practice is clean and we can even send over doctors to help out. America shouldn't step in and tell other countries what culture is valid and what isn't. This imperialism always has a negative result such as genocide. What do you think happened to the Native Americans when the Europeans took over America? Or what Hitler did to the Jews just because they had a different culture and looked different. Imperialism sucks and should be stopped.
