"An army of one." "Semper Fi" " The few the, the proud, the marines" "The Navy- accelerate your life" "The Coast Guard- our main base is in Kansas for the purpose of irony" Alright, maybe the last one isn't a legit slogan, but if I have to get hit with the propaganda the American military chucks at impressionable youth through one more morning of Channel One, I'm gonna up and move to Canada (or Djibouti, whichever is more convenient at the time.)
I'm a pretty hard core pacifist. I obviously don't believe this war is justified, but even further I don't quite buy the Just War Doctrine. I feel that if someone innocent, or even not so innocent, is gonna die, there is no justice. I mean, I'm not the kind of person who goes and boycotts violent movies, but I don't see the point in real warfare.
With all the current promises of being pulled out of Iraq by both Democratic hopefuls, why is the military still recruiting like it's going out of style? (which it is.) Further more, the military ads clearly target people of lower income and minority status. If that's not amoral exploitation of a disadvantage, I don't know what is.
There's a great line in the currently revived show "ThreePenny Opera" where the character Mac the Knife sings "you may die, but the army lives on."
Just food for thought
Let's all go Barmy, we love the army

i cant beleive i just wasted my time reading this blog.
i know people think that war is wrong and that it wont solve anything, all it does is kill people. well ill tell you this:
if we weren't in iraq, there would be a theocratic civil war going on right now over a powerstruggle, were irrational radicals would be slaughtering innocent people. we have wars to protect those people and save there lives.
k pacifist.
So instead, there's an ineffective government with radicals running around killing people for theocratic reasons anyway...

jsaj, what are you talking about.
I'm talking out the ineffective government in Iraq failing to quell attempts at ethnic cleansing throughout Iraq.

that is true, iraqi government is very weak, what the u.s. needs to do his give them higher quotes and more resources so that they can grow and become stronger faster.
just so u know, the U.S. has spent billions in Iraq rebuilding what terrorists destroyed, if we back out it will all be destroyed again.
If, and I am incredibly skeptical, the Iraqi government can start making good progress, I would support a more delayed withdrawal goal. But I really doubt that the Iraqi government can do so.

Another paragraph in there might make the blog a little easier on the eyes.
(And I saw the revival with Allan Cumming!!! :dances: )

i dont think theres any reason to debate whether or not we should be in iraq. guess what...... we're at war in iraq
No we're not. We're engaged in a military action in Iraq. The "war" (also a 'military action') ended when we deposed Saddam.

well we're at war with al qadea. and whether or not we're "at war" or "engaged" or whatever, we are there, and we've created this huge mess that involves the entire middle east. so i wish someone would come up with a brilliant way of fixing all that? but im not going to hold my breath for that one
klyie, ur a girl u wouldn't really understand (not a personal attack).
i gonna drop u of in iraq and i want you to see how its like to live there. people die daily. imagine your husband going to work the same way he does every day, but this day he soen't come back because a car bob blew up next to him. imagine what the iraqs feel right now.
we are trying to help. we cant you see that.
I know women who have been in Iraq. Granted, I know many more men than I do women, but I still know women who have been in Iraq (as soldiers during this... military action, even).
Gender does not exclude someone from understanding.

not taken personally, sorry but i can hardly figure what youre trying to say, there are lots of spelling mistakes. i love the troops and theyre all doing wonderfully. dont get me wrong. but with the escalating problems in the middle east, the entire situation looks so grim. and i really havent heard a great plan lately. but definitely depleating troops is the wrong way to go on this one.
Please use the reply link at the bottom of the comment to respond to it. It keeps the flow of conversation better when there are many different discussions going on in a given thread. Thanks.

Oh, Channel One... haha I do not miss high school. At All.
While we're on the subject of slogans for military service, you left out "yvan eht nioj." I love that song. :-)
