Well, summer's almost over, and most kids are dragging their feet in anticipation of the new year. Or are they?
Most of my friends that I've talked to recently have admitted, if grudgingly, that they are actually looking forward to the first day of school. I must say, I'm ECSTATIC that school is just around the corner. And I think I know the source of this phenomenon- BOREDOM.
See, in elementary school and even in early middle school, summer is a time spent playing with friends, indoors and out. When we are young, we still have that ability to create our own entertainment; we can still make a game out of anything and we find easy ways to occupy ourselves during the long, hot summer months. But then we get to high school, and we're not so content with digging in the dirt and running around a park sweating all day. We get lazier (yeah, I said it), and our interests grow far beyond our backyards. But our means do not always match our ambitions. I was hoping to participate in ANYTHING this summer- an art program, a leadership program, a TRASHCOLLECTING program for god's sake, but NOTHING. I spent this summer sitting around the house watching TV just like I've spent the last few summers. Even when I did this kind of thing as a kid, I didn't feel the kind of lack of achievement that I feel now. I feel like I should be doing something, but there's nothing for me to do. I can't go anywhere (the parents are not so enthusiastic about travel with gas prices the way they are), I can't get into any programs (since most of them cost way too much), and I can't drive MYSELF anywhere, so I haven't seen my friends since school ended. In high school, summer is A LOT less appealing than in the earlier years. And that kind of sucks. But, undeniably, all us high school kids will probably be begging for it when the end of the next year rolls around. :) And such is the irony of life.
Summer- Best Part of the Year or Most Boring?

BLAH.. (boredom sigh)
OH MY GOD YES<
why do you think i make blogs. Im now a Senior and can't wait for School to start (mostly because when it ends i get to leave, yeah for everyone)
But i agree, many summers in High School prove to be some of my worst, though i have really never had a good summer.
For me summer is a time of hot sun light (florida), no friends (parents), and crappy odd jobs that help out everyone but me. I would be much happier if it was just me, but at the moment im stuck.
So here is to school starting in exactly two weeks, hold up glass of water, though i do have a summer job so it's not AS horrible....
