During my scholarship search in order to pursue my dreams of pagan seminary, there would be times that I would be rather surprised that given my majors I recieved rather little options in scholarships. My majors are of theology and philosophy (starting out) and you'd think that since philosophy itself is a rather classic teaching that there would be solid funding for it. Sadly though you'd be rather sadly mistaken, as I was.
What I was able to find was both extremely school specific and very low in funding. I've seen all kinds of full rides given to other majors (for the sake of the gods a person with women's studies can get a full ride) so why so skimpy on philosphy or the study of religious creeds? Have we as humanity grown so arrogent and assured in our own "superiority" that we no longer need to fund these courses? Is the idea of free thought over the ideals and concepts of beliefs centered on humanity being a small part of the cosmic puzzle become such a taboo anymore? It is not fair, it is in actuality a vulger insult to ourselves and our forerunners by letting philosophical pursuits fall under into lowness and obscurity.
Try as I might to raise the collective awareness, I am only one man. anymore I feel like I am struggling to stay afloat in a tar pit. My sincerest wish is that people who support philosophical and theological pursuits stand with me and fight to keep our wishes to learn the searing light that keeps away that dusty veil of obscurity away.

Yeah, I'm a philosophy/religion double major as well. It totally sucks that not only aren't there much scholarship opportunities for our major, but also not very many opportunities for free credits (AP and CLEP tests). Best you can do is keep an eye out for any scholarship that you're elligible for. Even if you don't think that you're elligible for the scholarship, give it a go anyway. The more obscure the scholarship, the greater the chance that you'll win it.
Also, don't be afraid of the sticker price of private schools. If your grades and SATs are good enough, they'll likely give you some money just to get you to go to their school.
