Before I begin, let me just say I am a video gamer. I believe the government needs to help in someway but it is also the responsibility of retailers to check id. The government needs to advertise more on game ratings. These advertisements should be on air when majority of parents watch television. Studies have shown that only 20 percent of the surveyed children said their parents restricted what video games they could play. If parents do not look out for their children early on, it can lead to a child becoming violent. The parents also need to communicate with their children’s friend’s parents about what videogames their children can play. There have been some reports of a video game retailer telling employees to do anything to sale videogames. This shows that some retailers do not care about parents or consumers. The government wants to blame every crime on video games. People who are violent play violent videogames. If the government wants to talk about video games causing violence then take away movies, music, TV and any other media outlet. I think we would have a less violent society if parents did what they suppose to do; look out for their children.

I really cannot tell what your position is, because you seem to contradict yourself a little bit. Do you believe video games cause violence, and do you believe that the government should have more limits on video games? It seemed to me like you stated both sides as your own opinion. I donnot think the government should have any more regulations, as I think that if peolpe were actually not allowed to play certain video games based on their age rather than just a reccomendation, I think that would be a little too much censorship for what I want out of a government. I definately think it should be entirely up to the parents, and if they are okay with their child playing a certain game, its their choice.
Right away I already knew the answer to the question that your blog title presents -- no, government shouldn't be responsible for children playing video games. They do to some extent, since they have the rating systems or whatever, but it's really ultimately up to the parents to control this problem since it's their kids (or the parents themselves) buying these games for their children.

I honestly am devoid of an opinion, even after reading yer blog.

I think it all should be regulated. Exposing anyone, despite their age, to violence conditions the person to accept violence as the norm. Its just like a doctor's first year of medical school- at first, the cadavers and even live people seem a little gross and shocking, but after being around it for a while, it's accepted.
