kids growing up in front of the tv

what is with the video game obsession? todays children are growing up watching tv and playing video games instead of going outside or using their imagination. The parents of these kids use the tv as a babysitter. my younger brother who is turning nine next month watches about 3 or more hours a night just watching tv. That is 15 hours or more just on weekdays. on the weekends he can spend upto 11 hours a day just sitting there. My cousin is around his age and he is the same way but with video games instead. Right when he gets up he plays, in the car he plays, and when they both are together they each have games to play....i know my mom and aunt try to get them away and i know they are responsible but my point is that kids now dont want to go out in fresh air and play. Our kids are getting lazier and lazier. i cant speak for other households but we all know the video game industry is growing so really we can assume that more and more video games are ending up in our houses, and the majority of houses do have cable if not more like satelite or digital cable. i just dont understand the obsession with tv/video games, and the comparison to actually doing something like playing soccer or playing imaginary games.....if this is our future then our creative minds will just turn into robots or atleast vertual images. This idea scares me and makes me think twice about how i will rase my kids(when i have some).

this is so true. i remember back in the day when all you could do was play outside for fun. kids dont know how to think anymore because the tv and video games think for them now. they cant make up their own games or anything. this is also the reason why americans are getting so overweight these days. they have no need to leave the house for entertainment because it's all in the comforts of their own homes.

I couldn't agree any more with what you said. I have an eleven year old brother and is into cartoons from 3 pm to about 9pm. He also loves playing video games and goes crazy if we change the channel if he's watching his wrestleling show. I mean he still likes playing outside but not as much as watching tv. And like you i also get a little scared of how my kids are going to be, but i hope with what i learn i make good choices.

hey i just want to say that im delighted that you felt the need to post this blog like 12 times. really wanted to get that out there huh ashley?? hahaha! im just playin!! no for real though....i completely agree! good job! see ya later slobieskud! =)

Sometimes I wonder how I managed my childhood without playing video games. I played games like "house" "school" and "doctor." It was fun pretending to be someone else, and pretending that I had things I didn't really have. In my opinion, I think video games are just more attractive. These days, kids like to have THINGS. The more advanced technology, the more attractive it will be. I don't even know if there are many little boys out there who enjoy playing with toy trucks more than playing the PSP. Sometimes I wish that our advances in techonology wasn't so advanced. Lol. Well, at least when it comes to entertainment and game systems anyway. :)
