Is it a necessary part of society or is it wrong? This has been the subject of much debate in my group. Some would say that it's necessary because (1) if it didn't exist, the prisons would be jam-packed of violent criminals and murders and we'd start running out of places to put them all and (2) If they are not put to death there's a chance that they will be released back into the public and kill more innocent victims. Some people I've met who are for the death penalty and are Christians look at it as by killing them we are sending them off to God to be judged by Him so that He will give them what they truly deserve.
On the flip side people say that by executing the criminals we are becoming criminals ourselves because we are murdering them and that it is not our place to decide who gets to live and who gets to die. Some people who are against the death penalty say that in fact life in jail is worse than the death penalty because they have to live in that miserable existence for the rest of their natural life here on earth.
So is it wrong to execute these people or is it wrong not to? Some believe that the death penalty is society's way of defending it's self from menaces that harm it's well being. Others consider it as us becoming no better than the criminal themselves. This is a major issue on which people can argue about forever because there is no clear, clean cut correct side. To me it almost seems as though religion, morals and ethics conflict on themselves. It is wrong to kill, but what are we supposed to do about all these criminals who do deserve to die, is it our place to kill them? I think this a subject that deserves much thought and careful consideration. Personally I've come to the conclusion that we should execute some criminals, but only the worst of them.

No offense but this subject is rather over done. I could understand it if it was for a competition but its not. I suggest that you go back and read other blogs.

I'm new here and I'm sure that other people have talked about it, but I've noticed that a lot of people who talk about the death penalty only consider their side of the agruement and completely ignore everyone else (except to say that they're wrong). And don't even think about the other side. The porpose of my entry is to challenge people to think about, carefully decide and continuely reconsider it... but I am sorry if you are getting tired of this subject, I am new here and I don't know what people had been posting about before I joined.
Ok just a quickie here. Personally after that botched up lethal injection in Florida I have formed the opinion that if we are to have the death penalty by the looks of things we should do it the good old French way, with a guillotine, instead of having screw ups with lethal injections. Other than that I havent formed a solid opinion on the death penalty yet.

I was actually thinking last night as I watched a show on prisons on court TV. People that are in prison for life, what exactly will stop them from killing people? I mean they are already in there for the rest of their life so isn't it kind of a free murder?
And I know that there are other people in there for life but there have been times where guards have been attacked too.
