I'll give you two hugs and a penny...

Thousands of people spend money every year learning how to be effective bargainers, whether it be for professional purposes or to be stronger, more assertive individuals. But what must be frustrating to these money losing individuals is to watch the millions of people who are born with these abilities and know how to exploit their abilities. For example: My family has recently started a new healthy eating regime. We are investing more effort into eating healthy foods and less crap, but on occasion I allow my children the joy of having some sweets such as ice cream. However, they are still restricted as to how often they can have the ice cream and how much they are allowed. One evening after we had finished our dinner of baked fish and veggies with whole grain rice our five year old daughter decided she wanted some ice cream. I had already told her earlier that day that today was not a day for ice cream but she could have some sliced apples with peanut butter. She continued to spend the entire day asking for ice cream and I continued to say no. At the end of the day she came into my room and asked again if she could have ice cream, and as I started to explain to her for the upteenth time she looked at me very earnestly and said, "If you let me have some ice cream I'll give you two hugs and a penny!" What parent could possibly said no to that? So, after collecting my "payment" I dished up some ice cream to a very happy little girl. Watch out world, she's going to be taking your ice cream soon, too.
