I just read a really great blog about how there are many students that do not really take the time to help out others or give a second thought to what is happening around them. This led me to think about two major things that have been bugging me. ipods and the most popular interaction among students.
First, just about everyone on campus that walks past me has headphones on. This is fine, I do this too but I wonder if anyone else ever feels that ipods have interfered with human interaction. Say someone yells at you from across the street to get your attention. Will you hear them? Probably not. If you don't feel like being social, fine, it is okay because you are busy listening to music. Maybe if I am having a bad day I will just put on my headphones sans ipod. What an easy way to evade an individual.
Here's the second and most frustrating of all: the good ol' "How's it going," one will ask. "Good." is the usual response. Do you find yourself saying positive things while really the day might be close to one of the worst you've had all semester? The tragic thing is is that if one were to respond with a "Well, my teacher just humiliated me in front of the class and then I spilt hot coffee all over myself ten minutes ago." the person asking this question would most likey be confused or have walked past you and be a few blocks away by the time you finish the sentence.
So I agree, it really doesn't take TOO much longer to shed the earphones and genuinely ask someone how there day is going. And please, please, stand still for two extra minutes to hear what she or he has to say.
Peace

I honestly get distracted with my iPod and someone I know tried to say hi or get my attention. But I'll meet up with them later and we talk. I remember a news report saying how people who listen to their MP3 Players don't pay attention to warning signs while walking.
I forgot where I was going with this... but I talk to my friends later in the day when I'm not walking to and from class.
