everybodys favorite space picture taker Hubble is going to have competition soon. the Google funded Geo-eye 1 is the next generation craft for earthen pictures. quite a few adjustments have been made to the craft the seperates it from it's cousin. for starters, the GE1 is the first satelite that uses military GPS, but is not a military craft. continueing, the hubble telescope has a reseloution of one-meter. the new GE1 has an un-compairable 16-inch reseloution. the satelite would travel the 425 miles into orbit piggy-backing on a Delta rocket. once in orbit the craft would begin it's orbit, taking about 98 minutes between poles of the earth. there are four camand posts, each in: alaska, virginai, norway and antarctica. each of these would have the capability to make the satelite take a picture and recieve it to there database. alignment of the camera is done by reaction wheels- or wheels that spin in a direction that allows the craft to align to a desired shot. the craft would transmit the pictures from a one-terabyte solid-state drive to its comand posts 40 times a day via radio frequency. the GE1 would beable to take shots up to 90 billion pixels in size, or about 6000 square miles of territory. hubble, get ready!
