High School Councilors

Okay... senior year was suppose to be the most easiest year of all of my four years in high school. (Yeah right!) I've never experienced such madness. Just kidding, but what i mean to say is how hectic this year was and still is. I've been caught into a whirlwind of  "college applications, scholarships, deadlines, etc" I'm just ready to scream! But really, Its frustrating because students like me are left to still question ourselves on "what to do next..." I really believe that our LAUSD schools in California should have more than just "1" councilor for each track. (It's just not enough.) I don't believe that each student is getting enough attention they need in order to pursue a good future. That's probably another reason why we have quite a high percentage of dropouts. It's ridiculous!?! 1 councilor per track of hundred of students from grade 9-12. The only time our councilor would basically keep in contact with the students is when they're setting up our next semester schedule. But that rarely does something, their always in a rush to get it done. Truth is, their never there to take the time to call each student one by one to talk about their future, especially those particular students who need help the most. On the contrary of it all, I do understand that our councilors are doing the best they can to give each student their personal time, and I do understand that they have a lot of work on their hands, but what I don't understand is why hasn't our LAUSD government provided us with more councilors?!? It's preposterous! I'm sure we have enough money from the taxes we take out everyday to provide extra at least 2-3 councilors per track. Or even a councilor per track per grade.

I feel as though the counselors at my school could care less if any of the students end up going to college. Not once have they came to any of my classrooms and talked about a post-secondary school. Some might say, that the student should go to them for information, but here in Tennessee if a student fills out the FAFSA fform, they are eligible for financil aid, and the HOPE scholarship. Those two things can almost pay the in-state tuition fee. And, not once have they every talked about this to any of the students... When it is free, and almost anyone can receive it.

My school was the same. I just picked a college (5 min from my home) and decided that after 2 years I would go to were my friend is at (a University). My councelors at school sucked, so i went to the college during summer and talked to them. They helped me set up my hole school years from then. Spent 1 hour with me and were helpfull, I suggest you do something like this, or check on the net. And also follow the "CLASS REQUIREMENTS" some people just pick classes that won't even be added to their units
