Sir Edmund Hillary had a lower cost State Funeral that happened on Jan 21st, New Zealand time.
Sir Edmund Hillary’s State Funeral occurred at the other end of the Globe in New Zealand, according to the AP wire and kxmc.com News:http://www.kxmc.com/News/200607
As reported and news pictures show, fellow mountaineers raised their ice picks as his casket passed by. In contrast to state funerals in the USA, this funeral cost a great deal less money. Compared to the more than 100 million dollar State Funerals of former President Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, the cost of this was small. The sad part of this is that another of the few heroes left has died.Being the first to climb Mount Everest in a low tech era was a monumental achievement. This man represented great courage in overcoming a great obstacle of nature,Mount Everest The mountaineering story of the conquest of Everest is indeed a real thriller.. All of us confront great obstacles in our lives and take courage from Sir Edmond Hillary.
Now a certain politician happens to be in the news with a similar name, Hillary Clinton, In her 2000 campaign for the United States Senate she claimed that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary. Her campaign noted this story in 2000 in New York. She was trying to connect herself to the conquest of Everest. However this political tactic failed because she was born before Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest.
I am not just pointing to Mrs.Clinton. Most Presidential candidates have tried to connect themselves to the the "hero" Ronald Reagan.(His hero status is a great debate). Obama, Romney, McCain, Romney, Huckabee, Rudy, and Mrs.Clinton all have claimed a special Reagan connection. Politicians would do better to mourn heroes properly than try to make connections. This is only the opinion of your Funeral Guy, a funeral director. Rest in Peace.:Sir Edmund Hillary my hero.
