You are my obsession

Perez Hilton’s wild success has been nothing short of bizarre. Oozing over celebrities, spreading rumors like a California wildfire, and becoming a celebrity in the process represents everything wrong in the Gossip Media today.

No offense to him (although I detest the lack of spell check and the weight jokes), but nowadays people don’t need to do much to become (in)famous other than to act ridiculously wild, wear expensive clothes, and go clubbing only to hook up with a minor celebrity to find themselves in the limelight – and on the internet – for at least fifteen minutes.

To reach celebridum (not an actual word, I know) was to work incredibly hard, possess a sublime amount of talent, and to be eloquent with a gallon of class. The problem, in fact, doesn’t lie with the generational changes.

Americans are excessively obsessed with what we cannot achieve, do not understand, and have not experienced. Americans are also exceptionally obsessed with the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The media feeds this fixation with in-depth and undercover coverage exploiting humans for exactly what they are –human – and we foolishly consume every morsel.

Celebrities are, in fact (and against some belief’s), human. Wow! They are not perfect, they make mistakes, and they like to eat ice cream too.

Many of us will not be placed in that kind of constant spotlight. Some of us will not have an emotional and/or mental breakdown. Few of us will never experiment with illegal substances and then check in to rehab. Those are some examples in which the fascination lies.

We really need to shy away from the celebrity issues and focus on ourselves.
