"
Why don't the newscasters cry when they read about people who die?
At least they could be decent enough to put just a tear in their eyes"- Jack Johnson
I don't think I need to say much else, other than that I really do wonder why people don't act more touched when they hear stories of tragedy and death.
I'm pretty sure our desensitization stems from the media. Violent television shows and films get better ratings and make more money, so when we see similarly horrific things in reality, they don't carry as much weight because we just feel like we have seen it all before on a big screen before. Because I don't want to completely lose my compassion for humanity, I tend to avoid these shows and movies; however, I think I am so sensitive I can't even handle watching the news............

You are right. Its just the way America does their news. It is unemotional and professional, leaving people desensitized. Russian news is different. IT at least has a little feeling in it.
that makes total sense.. honestly i became quite numb to fatal accidents and such until it happened to me, now i am so much more sensitive to what goes on around me because i get into that mindset of "i wonder how the people around them, who knew them feel"
What is truley said is the fact that since the Iraq War began I have not seen one casket or one crying mother or wife. I want to see how America feels and not how they bottle it up inside.
That is so true. In this way, they are disrespecting American soldiers. Whether you agree with the war or not, the deaths of soldiers should still be honored and not rattled off as some number. How disrespectful. how about our soldiers? Its hard for them to actually be in battle and then hear the indifference in the news. Our soldiers are having a tough enough time already. They need all the support and encouragement they can get.
I agree. I have stopped watching the news every morning. I cant stand to news casters name off the latest death toll in Iraq, or speak about the latest fatal accident, or kidnapping, as if its nothing. To me human life still means something. I think so much of America has become selfish and only think about themselves. "Well I wasn't in that accident so it doesn't matter." "I didn't know the person who died so what do I care". It seems kind of rude but I really think people think like that today. We just arent raised to care about each other anymore. We are raised to be scared of the world and fear strangers etc. It's sad.

yeah, I stopped reading the news in the mornings a long time ago. It kinda ruins the whole day. Anyways, I just read it online, that way its less offensive. You get the facts without the half hour break for the celeb breaking news and without any rattling.
