Save the Helpless Babies
Every day, thousands of embryos are being trashed worldwide. Each will be thrown into an autoclave bag, killed under high heat and pressure conditions, and set out with the rest of the garbage. Sadly, nobody is working to protect the rights of these unborn children. These potential humans are being trashed, and nobody seems to care. Their right to life is being violated for no reason.
Does any of this sound ridiculous yet? It does to me. I was reading a blog about stem cell research when this thought crossed my mind. Fertility clinics waste thousands of embryos per year. Pro-life supporters argue that an embryo is an unborn child with rights and feelings. Some even argue that the child was created by God and is a blessing. Why have I not heard about protests at fertility clinics? Are there not pro-life enthusiasts waiting to adopt these blessings? How can these heartless people simply throw away something that is a potential human? Surely the pro-life movement knows this happens. They seem to have every figure, statistic and calculation regarding abortion memorized, yet I never hear anything about the embryo trashing that happens everyday.
My next question- if the embryos are being thrown away anyways, why can’t we use them for stem cell research?
So, what’s the deal? If you’re a pro-life person, or if you happen to know the logic behind it all I would love to hear your thoughts. I have trouble with the idea that the unborn child is “worthless” because it was conceived outside the body, but one that was conceived inside the body has rights similar to those of born humans. To me, this is similar to saying that a child is not born in God’s eyes if the mother has a caesarean birth.
Enlighten me.

I feel that they should, have a time system, on how long an embroy can sit, and if no one uses it, it should be donated to research. There is no reason to waste a life.

Or just leave it up to the parents. It's the same as parents telling a doctor to donate their child's organs after a horrible accident. The "child" cannot live without extensive life support, so parents often decide that, rather than "waste their child's life, they will give their child's organs to preserve another life. Why not let the parents of the unused embryos decide if their embryo waste can be donated. I bet a bunch of them would do it.

I like that idea too, but any pro-lifer I've mentioned it to just says that we shouldn't kill babies to save someone else's life and that somehow it's different in the life support situation because the person doesn't have a chance at life and the embryo does have a chance. Of course, the embryos that are being discarded generally don't have a chance unless the parents have succeeded and no longer want them.

I like this one a lot better.
Im def in agreement with the idea that parents should be able to say where their embryo goes. Its their embryo...should be their choice.
Dare to be different....dare to care.
I agree. I stumbled upon a very conservative website today that was talking about how in vitro fertilization labs were "stealing" frozen embryos for stem cells. It was the biggest distorted story I had ever read.

Because the liberal media doesn't report such protest even if they do happen. And they do have people who adopt IVF children and carry them to term. However, you still need permission from the people who created the IVF in the first place and that is not always easy to obtain. Even if they don't want the child, they don't want anybody else to adopt it. So the children stay locked in this frozen tomb. Please do more research before saying we ignore topics like IVF or embryonic stem cell research because we certainly do not and if you go to places like Family Research Council, American Family Association and Focus on the Family, you will see that we spend quite a bit of time discussing and try to inform the public about these very things! Don't assume because it is not written about in your local paper, that is probably liberal anyway, that these children are being ignored. They are by liberals but not by us!
My next question- if the embryos are being thrown away anyways, why can’t we use them for stem cell research?
Because it is not our place to destroy life in order to try to save it. That is what Hitler did. He used the Jews in all kinds of medical experiments. Was that okay? No it was not and using embryos in medical research is just as sickening. It is also futile. People and mice who have used embryonic stem cells have grown tumors. While adult stem cells have saved thousands of people's lives already. The scientists say the prefer embryonic stem cells because they are pluripotent, meaning that the cells can be turned into any other cell in the body. Supposedly they can use an embryonic stem cell to recreate a heart cell or brain cell or whatever is needed. However, we are finding out that adult stem cells are a lot more pluripotent than recently thought. In fact, most pro-life groups don't have any moral objections to adult stem cells being used because what happens is the doctors are able to obtain from a living person and even after they have gotten it, the subject is still alive. No one dies in order to get adult stem cell. Just like pro-life people don't object to blood donations, because people don't die from them, we don't see adult stem cell research as a bad thing but as a wonderful thing that can improve many lives. However, we don't back killing embryos ever. And explain to me how killing an embryo will somehow make it less worthless? It is already worthless to the scientists, it is already worthless to the parents who keep in that frozen state, it is already worthless to the rest of the society, it is the pro-lifers who see its worth! It has every right to live and to not have that right interfered with. It is the pro-lifers who see value in its very being, even in its embryonic state. Should you have been killed as an embryo for the "potential" to help someone. It is not even proven that embryonic stem cell research works, in fact it has been proven to fail! So should we continue to kill these beings for failed experiments! This is no different then what they did to the Black men in the Tuskegee Study. Where they infected them with syphilis-without their permission-and then went about experimenting on them. Destruction of life is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in a civilized society.
Lastly, embryos unless they are from abortion are not being thrown away. The ones from IVF are often frozen for many years before any thought of disposal is considered. And the aborted are sold disgustingly to labs for their "spare parts." It is a ghoulish and morbid business that takes place every day and we as pro-lifers are trying to stop that too. It is all about money to these greedy profiteers and life is too valuable to treat so cheaply!
First of all, please, please, please proofread your comments for punctuation and grammatical errors before posting them. They are very hard to read, and even harder to understand.
"So the children stay locked in this frozen tomb. "
Learn your facts. A small cluster of cells is not a child. An infant becomes a child at age one. Whether you like it or not, you must use appropriate terminology when addressing scientific issues.

Also, please do not compare any issue involving unborn fetuses or embryos to the Holocaust. There is a huge difference between sentient beings being tortured and stem cell research. Comparing an embryo to a Holocaust victim is about as acceptable as comparing my exterminator's wrath to that of Hitler.
"People and mice who have used embryonic stem cells have grown tumors. While adult stem cells have saved thousands of people's lives already. "
Could you please elaborate? I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here, and I was unaware that mice were using stem cells. Those mice sure are becoming smarter every day! Please, back up your claims with some references other than biased news sources.
"However, we are finding out that adult stem cells are a lot more pluripotent than recently thought."
Actually, adult cells aren't pluripotent. They're able to transdifferentiate, but pluripotency has yet to be proven. There is more progress to be made in this area, but for now certain stem cells are only able to produce a limited number of types of cells.

Also, have you donated stem cells? If you are truly interested in supporting adult stem cell research, I urge you to donate today.
...."It is already worthless to the scientists, it is already worthless to the parents who keep in that frozen state, it is already worthless to the rest of the society, it is the pro-lifers who see its worth!..."
Actually, scientists see much value in frozen embryos and embryonic stem cells. Otherwise, why would we want to use them? If the prolifers really see their worth, why are they so against using them for research instead of discarding them? Once again, have you tried to adopt a fertilized egg lately?
"It has every right to live and to not have that right interfered with."
The problem here is that a fertilized egg cannot live without assistance and does not have rights. Rights are reserved for those of us who have been born.
"Should you have been killed as an embryo for the "potential" to help someone."
I'm going to assume this is a question. If I were an embryo on the verge of being autoclaved, yes. If I were an embryo within a mother that wants to have a baby, then no.
"It is not even proven that embryonic stem cell research works, in fact it has been proven to fail!"
I'm assuming that you're talking about advances being made or experiments being successful. Saying that research fails just indicates a misunderstanding of the nature of research. Research naturally involves failure no matter what is being investigated. You can read more about successful embryonic stem cell experiments that have been published in high impact peer-reviewed journals below. "This is no different then what they did to the Black men in the Tuskegee Study."
Except for the fact that this study used sentient people, not embryos that lack neural development, the ability to survive independently, and self-awareness.
"Destruction of life is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in a civilized society."
With that being said, I'm really hoping that you're vegetarian, do not take antibiotics or any vaccinations (which use animal testing and ultimately result in some sacrifice), and do not use bug spray, fly swatters, or purchase leather goods.
"And the aborted are sold disgustingly to labs for their 'spare parts.'"
Once again, this is my whole point. If a woman has an abortion, she will have an abortion. There is no point in throwing a big fit to have the aborted fetus discarded instead of using it to better the medical treatments available to humankind.
