Although I went to public school all my life, I feel that private schools definately have better qualitites. I probably base this solely on the flaws of the public school system, especially here in Texas, and my experience in this state is what my comment is based on.
Public schools (in TX) get their funding from 3 areas: local, state, and federal. Most comes from local, i.e. property taxes. This causes and unfair advantage to those schools that happen to be in areas where the property values are higher. Since their taxes are higher, the public school with wealthier households around it get better education. Federal funding makes the smallest percentage of funding for public schools, but may have some of the biggest and ultimately most negative influence on public schools. Federal funding goes to those schools that pass standardized tests. If the school doesn't do as well, it doesn't get as much money from the federal govt. It has gotten to the point where teachers are forced to teach to the test instead of teaching a curriculum that could advance our education. This is why our public education system is so behind.
Ultimately, the more funding the school has, the better resources they can buy, and the better they can teach the children who attend. Without the government regulating curriculum and mandating that students must pass a test in order to get money, private school have the advantage for a better education.

I really like public school. If I went to a private school, I would probably feel a little like I'm cut off from the rest of the world, because most private schools are like little cities in themselves. We wear uniforms, we have tons of rules, but we are still considered public school. I don't see much of a difference, except all social classes are represented here. You have your rich kids, then those that are stable, then those that are 'gangsta', and then those who just don't fit in. I just like the idea of being in a public school more than a private. I find it better because I know that I'm getting the education that a lot of other kids are getting, but I'm excelling in all that I do. It's not what type of education you receive, but it's what you decide to do with that education that matters.

It's not just the rich that go to private schools. They are very much the same as far as social classes when compared to public schools. The difference may be that the student who are less financially stable may be there on scholarship. There are cliques in private schools as well. These groups form themselves when in a bigger group because that's the way kids work...the flock to what's comfortable for them. Public education is not as good as a private one. It is the type of education you receive that's important. If you do not learn something, it doesn't matter what you do with what you know, you're never going to learn that one thing you were never given a chance to learn. Saying you excel in a public school that is sub par to maybe a private school is like saying you're the fastest 2 legged person in a 1 legged race, it just doesn't challange you as much so you don't really know how you will perform agains others.

It certainly looks as if you need the private school.
