Is America Ready for Change?

Since 1789 America under the new consitution has seen only 43 white, upper class males as persident. Is america ready for a black male or black femal president? As americans should our decision on race and gender help us econimcally? Should it be a factor that could change history as we know it. Most people say that history has a way to repeat itself......if we do get a black male or female president, will it repeate itself? Our constitution says that all men are created equally how equal is it when it is 43 white males versus on black in our history books? Will this new event show evidence that racisim is still a key issue in america today?

A person's gender or race can play a significant role in decison making enough to make a huge difference. As a president a decision is one that needs to be supported by congress, senate, the supreme court, and the voters of america. If the voters vote in black president male or female, it's because they feel that it is in the best interest of our country. If the main focus of the president is the people and the counrty dosen't that make us all qualified to be president? Which proves that it dosen't matter what gender or race you are, it the decisions that you make that qualifies you to be the best presidental nominee!

I get your point, but your grammar is lacking in a couple of key areas. Maybe a quik spell check in the edit would help?

I agree! I'm sick of seeing so much emphasis on what color or gender the candidate is - the bottom line is, I will vote for the candidate whom I feel is most qualified and most supports my own beliefs, no matter what they look like!

The race and gender issue is important yet overblown. I agree with you that it shouldn't matter what sex or race someone is when they run; what should matter is their probable efficacy as a leader. Whoever can best advocate for the public interest should win.

(if you can't see the fnords they won't eat you)

ALOT OF THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE. PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS BE RACSIST. 1ST IT WAS BLACK THEN NOW ITS HISPANICS AND NEXT COME THE CHINESE. SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW WHEN TO STOP. I SAY THAT IF WE OVERTHROW THE WHITE GOVERNMENT WE CAN HAVE A BOARD FULL OF DIFFERENT CULUTRES RACES AND RELIGIONS. THATS WHAT THE MAIN REASON FOR P.DIDDY'S PLEA OF VOTE OR DIE WAS OR. TO GET THE MINORITY COMMUNITY TO VOTE. SO HOW BOUT NEXT ELECTION WE OVER THROW THEM. WE CANT GET MAD IF WE'RE NOTDOING AN EFFORT TO CHANGE ANYTHING.

White males truly don't represent most Americans. As long as we have a president who knows how to properly ask for assistance and advice when needed (and heeds good advice), thinks about the best solution to problems before taking action, relates well to people, can negotiate well, and listens to constituents, as well as any other key characteristics that I haven't listed, then it doesn't matter what color skin the president has or whether they are male or female. It is time for the presidency in America to have a fresh outlook on the way issues are best handled and quit catering to the conservative extremists. While a white man could do the job, so could a black, hispanic, or any other race of man or woman. Whoever is most qualified for the position should get the job, and both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have brought wonderful talent into this presidential race.

Did you read that Newsweek article? I read it and wrote something on the same topic. http://www.progressiveu.org/234943-making-history

I do believe that history will repeat itself if Obama or Hillary won the presedential race, it will encourage more female and african american politicans to consider running for president. In my opinion most minorities do not vote well this actually might be for most americans is that they do not feel that their vote actually counts. In the end it is the electoral college that has the final word. I say they should abolish the current voting system for another way to vote and make all of us believe that our votes really do count.

The question was posed in my politics class yesterday: does Congress need to look like American to represent America? Or is taking a trustee approach to their seat enough? As history has shown us, it's easy to overlook minorities when they don't have a presence. One can ignore those who one doesn't see seemed to be a consensus.

Why should the post of President be any different? Americans believe that America is the greatest country ever... so why are we stuck in the "a woman/black/Hispanic couldn't possibly garner enough support to be president" mentality? Sri Lanka, Israel, India, Britain, Iceland, Nicaragua, France, Poland, Canada, Ireland, Finland... these are only a few countries that have had a woman head of state in the 20th century. Why should America be any different?

We don't give ourselves nearly enough credit when we say we aren't ready for change. A woman or minority head of state isn't a foreign idea... women have helped rule for ages... so why is it such a foreign idea to Americans?

I would be happy to see either. I believe it would show that America is truly an ideal place of diversity. We can all finally get over the past and live for today! We have so many oportunities!
