Well the big one hit the other day. A massive avalance tore through Alaska's capital city Juneau, or just outside of it I should say. The damage is done though. The avalance took out juneaus hydro electric plant, tearing some of the power lines(you know... the big ones?) out of the ground.
This doesn't seem to big a deal just in the overview but here's the problem. Juneau is completely landlocked. There are no roads in or out so everything has to go out by plane, ferry, or barge. That's also how everything has to come in. Right now they are running a town of about 40,000 people on desil electricity untill repairs can be made.
In two weeks time AEL&P ( the towns only electricity provider) will be raising the individuals electric bill by 500% in order to pay of the 100,000 gallon a day desil generators. That's right, the quote in the news paper said 100,000 gallons of desil a day to keep the town running.
That sounds a ridiculous amount for 40,000 people, even if Juneau is the largest capital and second largest city in the U.S(for it's landmass). People have said it must be a misprint but I am not sure. Alaska has asked for 25 million in relief funds but I havn't been able to determine whether or not it has been granted as of yet.
I just dont know where they are going to find all of their desil, and what happens if they run out.

Wow. I hadn't heard about that...
that's not good...
I'm worried about the implications to gas prices, due to the insane amount of desil fuel they'll be using.
