I know i already posted two blogs today but i just remembered an issue i want to discuss before i forget it. I attend Wayne State University which is located in Detroit, Michigan. I live an hour away from campus. The issue i want to discuss today may seem dramatic but it is real. In our school, i would be sitting in one of the "safest" buildings known as State Hall in the study room (its more social than other study rooms) and homeless people would walk into the room drunk or mentally ill. I have no problems with homeless people so long as they stay off campus. We are not paying tuition to be bothered almost every day for a quarter. I was sitting there yesterday with a pepsi bottle on my table and a mental homeless man around 40 years old was walking around the building and then came up to me mumbeling stuff like "hi" and "money" but i couldn't make up what he was saying. Another time i was sitting at a table studying for an exam and then i noticed a man on his knees with his hands as if he was praying. I thought he was gonna say something like will you marry me? He also asked for a quarter and i said sorry but i don't have any change. I would love for all the homeless people to have food and shelter and all that but please leave me alone! I am a student with loans trying to get by. Our school has its own police department so it amazes me how when these homeless people come no one says anything. We all sit and stare and act like nothing happened. When i told my mother she went on in rage about safety. I know that the homeless are unarmed (or at least i don't think they are) but do i have to carry pepper spray or get a personal body guard just to attend school? I mean these people are seriously on drugs. I am not being judgemental. This is reality. My uncle told me to call the school department and complain. I thought that was a good idea but then how many hours will i spend being referred from one department to another? And when i complain, i am one individual. If i tell them to hire more officers to only allow students in the buildings, they would say "your tuition would cost more cause then we would have to hire more officers". This is pethatic!
