It's funny how gossip sells. That is how entertainment magazines get business. Generally we are taught that it's rude to talk about other people in mean ways yet there are careers that are based on gossip. It's funny how much people care about celebrities. I guess because they can connect with them or make fun of them if they dislike them. I can understand why, I mean they are rich, famous, and beautiful, the normal people should have the right to crticize them and gossip about rumors.
Gossip does not just occur in school. "Did you hear Britney is in rehab?"
"Brad and Angelina are seperating?"
"Lindsey has an eating disorder?"
"Anna Nicole drug overdosed?"
Sure, some of these topics may be true but not all are. My definition for gossip is news people like to spread that was probably false or made up. I personally don't care about the celebrities. I feel bad for their problems but it shows they are human beings too, not attractions to make fun of.
Human beings enjoy to know the business of others to make themselves feel better about themselves or learn from others mistakes. I just know I would hate to be a celebrity and get all that attention and no privacy.

I can understand why people are so interested in gossip and why it's become such a big form of entertainment. I'm a curious individual myself. What I can't understand is how a society so interested in the lives of others rarely pay any attention to the "real" news of the world? These things are often far more interesting, and certainly have a larger repercussion on all of our lives.

If we are to suggest that we dont care about celebrities, why is so much space wasted on their so comparably human lives and conflicts?
Why did in the hell did ABC devote 130 minutes to Martha Stewart's Jail time, but only 18 to The Genocide in Darfur?
WHY IN THE HELL are people COMPLAINING that CNN only spent "scant" time on Anna Nicoles death?

because honestly, this gossip is worthless, and when the it occupies our head more than the images of children soldiers and victims, its disgusting.
