DUIs, Graffiti, Drugs and other crimes are all merely symptoms bigger issues that run deeper than a friday night with nothing to do.
Healthy happy people who have healthcare, are well fed, and work a steady job dont just pop a needle in their arm or get behind the wheel completely hammered.
Poverty begets bad behavior. Treating only the symptoms of the underpriveledged, depressed, uneducated, and unemployed has worked for so long because we live in a functionalist society-meaning that there is a place for all of the deviants of society. They work at taco bell, wash dishes, clean carpets and do other jobs that make minimum wage or less.
Im not putting these jobs down, but im saying that basic human rights should put us all on a level that keeps us all equal with one another. I mean thats what it says on the bill of rights....but that isnt what i see when i look out my window. Im saying that these people are being taken advantage of and it shows up in their actions. People cant be held down for too long and be expected not to rebel in their own way or want to mentally escape their self hatred.
I know that there are programs that are supposed to help, but they just dont seem to be too effective. I met a homeless lady in my city on one of the coldest nights this past winter. She was asking for money and i asked her why she didnt just go to a shelter, she told me that there were too many people who would harass her or abuse her.
Material wealth isnt everything, but all people need to be cared for.
My stepmother is from vietnam, which is a communist country. Their water and electricity is all paid for by the government, they all have health care and they all have food.
There isnt really any crime. They dont even have glass in the windows and live in open air huts. When all poeple are provided for...we all have less to worry about and can all just sit back and relax and work at life...focusing on prosperity and joy.
